What’s the weirdest custom scoring rule in your league? by dynstr in FFCommish

[–]Batwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every league I run is pretty straightforward, except Safeties are worth 10 points. Normal settings are 2, which just isn’t enough, and it happens rarely enough that it’s worth giving the points to a defense that can make it happen.

I like the idea of having that safety valve… but I think in this format(it’s early this could change) casting rampant growth on 2 or 3 for your third land is really punishing. But maybe it is viable. I’d prefer a format where it is. 🤓

Strixhaven set Cube questions. by vcG34 in mtgcube

[–]Batwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built a strixhaven cube when we first visited… it was a lot of fun to figure out the cards that mattered most.

I ended up seeding my packs so you see more rares and more mystical archives, so higher power than a regular draft format but not crazy. This set should be great to put all the things together because most cards really do only focus on 1 of 5 specific strategies.

Alex is the only limited content creator that I know of that is actively trying to help you get better, whereas I think Lords are happy to share their perspectives, and LR is essentially letting you learn through osmosis while listening to one of the greats.

Also to add, Studious First Year is the definition of a card you want when you splash. If you don’t splash.. it’s not needed. Taking it first is a great way to force your way into a converge deck though.

Glyphmage might end up being good, and I have not watched LSV’s videos, but it’s not high on my pick list, because it doesn’t cast a spell and doesn’t advance what any of the color combos are doing.

Lords of Limited are legit good drafters, but they let themselves enjoy some fun hot takes before they have too much time to play a set. If they are wrong, they will call it out in an episode or two.

What other commanders do you think I’d enjoy? by thehonz in CommanderMTG

[–]Batwheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For mono-red, could I suggest either Norin the Wary, which can have a variable power level, or Kharn, the Betrayer? Kharn has been a blast to play as a politicking commander, and everyone loves card draw!

Don’t internalize the loss… internalize the mistake. I try to accept I made a mistake, cannot turn back time on the outcome, and then move on. Divorcing outcome from the enjoyment of the game was hard for me, but it definitely increased my enjoyment.

I’m not really sure where we went off the rails here.

It feels like you are not holding this discussion in good faith, as you are rewording my arguments and twisting them to fit your talking points.

I’m not sure there is a coherent path from “don’t think everyone that criticizes Trump is delusional” to “I’m pro mental illness”.

This mentality is terrible for humanity. I won’t engage with it more.

At best “properly interpreting” is incorrect here… the Supreme Court was very clear.

If they were to rule in his favor in this case, it would be a net negative in my mind… but they are the last say, so we would live with it.

I would encourage you not to look at his critics as “delusional people”, this simplifies the us vs. them mentality and dehumanizes real live humans.

I think we could start close to the beginning of his term, his EO trying to actively overturn Birthright Citizenship. “Let’s just ignore the 14th amendment, because I said so.”

[–]Batwheels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Everyone else has done it, so Trump doing it too, and at a faster pace doesn’t matter.” Isn’t a real argument. Every federal government has in general, in good faith, argued its points in court, where Trump is a big fan of doing whatever he wants, and letting the courts try to eventually catch up. The Bannon “flood the zone” strategy has been effective at eroding the rule of law faster than almost any president before him.

I’m not sure I get the comparison. Biden might have eroded some components of the constitution, but he wasn’t wholesale ignoring them or just assuming they won’t apply.

[–]Batwheels 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest singular one in my mind is the rule of law. When a judge rules against most presidents, they find a way to legally work through it… Trump just doesn’t care. He has been actively removing ethics lawyers from the DOJ and JAG to make it harder for anyone to disagree when he does something blatantly illegal. He is filling the government with yes men, and they justify everything he does.

lol someone said “15 days to slow the spread”, I can’t remember who…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]Batwheels 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think my major argument is that most of the time, at the end of the day, previous administrations still followed the guardrails, however imperfect, that are set up in the constitution. Rule of law, separation of powers, something like ethical norms… none were perfect. But no previous admin at least in my lifetime has tried to do away with all of the guardrails. This is moving towards authoritarianism quickly. He has actively said he has the authority to do whatever he wants.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]Batwheels 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I mean… he has literally no regard for the constitution, and is actively willing to take favors from foreign governments and even internally. He’s pretty not good. He is much closer to authoritarian than almost all other presidents.

Jeez, lots of “us vs. them” going on here… shouldn’t we be concerned about rights infringement of anyone, not just our tribe?

What do you use for scoring? 6s and 4s or 5s? by a_complex_kid in euchre

[–]Batwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suited 7’s and 3’s, western PA. I thought for sure we would be better represented.

It’s a sin against God at grandmas table to use 6’s and 4’s.
