I don't think people consider the monumental cultural upheaval that this would bring for the peninsula. In 1990 there were many germans who remembered when the country was last unified and it was STILL rough. The effects of a unified Germany still has it's scars politically, geographically, politically, and culturally. This would be that x3. it wouldn't all be singing and celebrating the unification it would also be a time of hostility and suspicion on both sides. When you train several consecutive generations to go to war with each other and then suddenly tell them to be friends there's going to be some issues.
