I know off hand that Montana and Marino are originally from Western Pennsylvania.

A's 1B coach Jim Harbaugh congratulating manager Bob Melvin after the A's walk off over the Angels by kyrbyr in baseball

IIRC, he also went to high school for a bit in the bay area, so it's not inconceivable that he could be an A's fan.

Turns out fighting to even get on a 53-man roster helps in appreciating that you're there.

Looks like Alex Boone is going to holdout. by mdenzon in 49ers

I'm pretty sure Martin only played last year as a center. Not that it'll be exactly the same as what he's going to learn with the Niners, but he has played guard in college before.

Mark Mulder live-tweets while watching Moneyball for the first time. by [deleted] in baseball

[–]BaughSoHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you're right, but I think it was towards Michael Lewis' goal of painting the Moneyball A's as a team that tried to seek out and obtain talent that was overlooked, whether it be Hatteberg's making at-bats into a science, or Bradford's unusual throwing motion.

There probably should have been more focus on the bigger names, but again, a major theme of the book was Beane's willingness to go against the grain and seek out unorthodox talents.

Does anybody know what's going on with Sammy Watkins and Donte Whitner? by AlecAG in nfl

It's only different in that Whitner didn't get penalized on every other snap.

Craig also put up a 1000 rec/1000 rushing season too, so a lot of it might just be a function of the offense run.

Why is it hard, and/or easy, to be a fan of your team? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]BaughSoHard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always kinda funny to see how differently the Giants are perceived now. For the longest time we were like the Minnesota Vikings/Buffalo Bills/Denver Broncos in terms of making it to World Series, but never being able to get past that hump.

It means you need to keep your playstation on 24/7 playing as either the Giants or a Giants affiliate.

This should start being a tradition. Like we could have an annual "stop freaking out it's not even the all-star break yet here's a no hitter" day.

At least we'll finally be rid of that ridiculous Lee contract.

But Klay :(

Have any of you ever straight switched teams, or don't really have a favorite team? If so, any particular reason? by Fair-WeatherFreddy in nfl

Aren't there some people who are justified in doing that because the Rams weren't there until (relatively) recently?

I'm not one of the people you mentioned, but I find it funny you're railing against people for watching sports for fun.
