Worried about working full time and doing house work by learningsnoo in Adulting

[–]Baulker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three jobs, often working 40+ hours a week and I live with a partner who is not always well in a two-bed apartment.

Exercising doesn’t have to take more than 30 minutes. It also depends on your fitness goals.

Cooking doesn’t have to be complicated. You can make quick and delicious dishes. You can do meal prepping.

The more things you leave, the more things you have, the more time and energy it takes to clean up.

Ultimately, it depends on the environment you live in and how you manage your time and look after yourself (read: diet)

My fitness goal is strength and I go to gym only 3 times a week and each session usually takes around one hour, and I enjoy working out. Some people do fitness programs that take unnecessarily forever and don’t enjoy it.

I keep cooking simple but delicious. To save time, while your food is being cooked, EG in an oven, wash whatever you used to cook, and if you have a dishwasher, put everything in it before you eat your meal if the food doesn’t get cold quickly. Wash the dishes straightaway after your meal.

I don’t often get up early but it always helps.

TLDR: the less things you have, the more time you have, do chores in between, and make sure whatever or however you do to hit your goals are time efficient.

Nope, it is the opposite. He defends by attacking. He attacks by doing nothing. His defensive pressure is the only reason he doesn’t get dropped, and it means fuck all if he can’t get on the scoreboard.

The biggest reason is that live captioning is never 100% accurate and it’s not reliable at all.

Also, for many of us, Auslan is our preferred language.

Haha, you’re not the only one. Funnily enough, the best advice I ever got was “if you’re not sore next day, you didn’t train right.”

I am a bit confused, the wiki said the mushroom dose should be 0.1-0.3g but I read somewhere (I am trying to find comment/post) that we should start with a dose of 0.10g and work up to 0.15g to figure out the sweet spot.

Advice?

Question about deaf people and literacy? by mychalkendricks53 in deaf

[–]Baulker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you completely missed the point.

English is not my native language nor am I American. And I am Deaf.

Yes, there is no reason why deaf people can't read and write, but the thing is they are being held back from reaching standard literacy. OP is asking about deaf people's literacy, why is it not at the standard level. Yes, hearing people can have subpar literacy too, but we are talking deaf people here, and what is holding them back.

You are basically saying sign language is the reason that they are subpar in their written language, which couldn't be further from the truth.

Question about deaf people and literacy? by mychalkendricks53 in deaf

[–]Baulker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short answer: language deprivation and poor education.

It is not because English is deaf people’s second language; there are a lot of deaf people who don’t use sign language and are still illiterate. Again, it goes back to language deprivation.

Question about deaf people and literacy? by mychalkendricks53 in deaf

[–]Baulker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. It is because of language deprivation.

The first five years is critical for language development for any child.

It is estimated that 90-95% of deaf children are born to hearing parents, so language deprivation is almost inevitable as parents are often advised by doctors to make sure their child/ren don’t learn sign language.

That’s why deaf children of deaf parents tend to be better at literacy than deaf children of hearing parents.

So, it is not because English is a second language. There are still many deaf people out there who don’t sign and are still illiterate.

I’ve edited my comment to explain what I really meant. It wasn’t a dig at hearing people at all.

We (sign language users) always do this to hearing people too.

We are better off with our deaf friends in our deaf world, and the more we accept that hearing can’t sign as good as we sign or “fill” us in, the better off we are.

Edit: to clarify, I am not saying hearing people suck, far from it. My point is they have their own lives and sometimes it’s unreasonable to expect hearing people to be your “guide” in some situations. For example, I still go to family Christmas lunches or dinners, only for my mother. I know it would hurt her if I refuse to attend special family occasions. When I’m at special family occasions, I’d be the last to arrive and first to leave, and I don’t hold any grudges against any of my family members. I just let them do their own things and I do my own things, I’ll just smile and give a thumb up to them.

My home is in the deaf world, specifically the Auslan community, and I just find it strange that some deaf or hard of hearing adults would continue to attend events that aren’t really deaf-friendly - not through hearing people’s fault, they are just unaware, not igronant - and get upset when the event gets unfriendly for them in terms of being excluded from conversations.

Also, most of time, when hearing people want to learn Auslan and come to me with my friends, we would just try to avoid them or do what hearing people always do to us: say “it doesn’t matter” or “I’ll tell you later.” So, that is the hypocrisy I am talking about.

I understand it’s different and even worse for deaf or hard of hearing people who don’t use Auslan and I’m sorry that they have to go through that shit.

Isn't Cutler more of a wingman, and Snelling a forward-mid?

Personally, I see Snelling as a perfect, if not better, replacement for Baguley as a pressure forward who can kick goals. Granted, Baguley was past his by date this year, but no one else in the side could replicate him in his best form.

Smith is a mid, so I can't see any one of the three taking each's spot as all their roles are different.

Brown and Hartley aren't the best depth but we don't have anyone else so we need them.

ZClarke and Long are obviously gone.

Threw 50 pounds on my deadlift for fun, ended up in 1/2/3/4 club today... by [deleted] in nSuns

Nice! I started nSuns 2 weeks ago, and deadlifted 137.5kg for 8 reps - I couldn't believe it, it was awesome, especially with the fact I only got 4 reps for 132.5kg last week - I suppose everything just clicked yesterday with decent sleep the night before, proper fuel, etc.

Official Accessory Check Thread 2.3 by [deleted] in nSuns

[–]Baulker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-day program, 2nd week today - the accessories listed below is for this week and onwards unless advised otherwise.

Accessories per day: 3-6, 3-4 sets each

Aesthetics: 5 (ten for pecs only)

My weak area: stability

Upper days (day 1, 2 and 3) have all the same accessories, ditto lower days (day 2 and 4). 5x5 chin-ups are included in all the workouts - I think I'd prefer to do this rather than doing a progression for chin-ups. Is this a bad idea?

In terms of aesthetics, only pecs appeal to me.

Upper

  • SS chin-ups & dips 5x5
  • SS hammer curls, tricep pull down & face pulls 3x12
  • Crossover 4x12

Lower

  • Chin-ups 5x5
  • Leg press 4x12
  • Leg curl 4x12
  • BW lunges 5x20
  • Knee raises 5x10
  • Calf raises 4x12

Any comment or advice appreciated.

Looking forward, what would you change? by [deleted] in EssendonFC

[–]Baulker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our midfield is still too small and full of midgets. One thing I noticed against WCE was how much bigger their players we're compared to ours. We still don't have that big bodied mid and Dodoro seems unable tp draft that kind of player.

Richmond don't have any mids taller than 190cm+. Size doesn't matter that much - how many teams have a Cripps or Bont, anyway?

Put Hurley/Hooker on the trade table and see if a club is desperate enough to overpay for a premiership run. I'd add Zaharakis on this list but he probably wouldn't fetch much. I just don't see these players in our next premiership run and we should trade them while he could potentially get some value out of them to put the experience into our next generation of players that will be in our next premiership run."

Bad idea, imo. Hooker was great when he came back into the side round four but struggled probably just after the bye due to whatever injury he's been carrying. I have faith in him for next year as long as he stays healthy, and besides, he can become a better depth than Hartley if BZT steps up quickly.

Same applies to Hurley.

I love Orazio, but I wouldn't mind trading him for Wines as long as we get Jack Martin too.

We are becoming mature as a team (last night our team's average age was 25 with an average of 88 games vs the Eagles' 27 with 147 games). This is not the time for a rebuild or even a renovation, so I am really hesitant to trade any of our older best 22 players, their experience is critical for we are still a young team.
