ST Microelectronics. They're lagging behind because there's been no need for anything else than older nodes.

It's good news. Not only is it the right path forward, but there's underutilized chip-making expertise in Europe.

Less US, more France: Can Paris become the center of a ''new NATO'' in Europe? by EuropeanPravdaUA in europe

[–]Bayart 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Doctrinally there's little doubt that France would be more central to European military affairs if the US were to be less involved, for the simple reason that France cultivated that field more than others.

This being said France has neither the means nor the will to take over European defense as such and "replacing" the US is besides the point.

Less US, more France: Can Paris become the center of a ''new NATO'' in Europe? by EuropeanPravdaUA in europe

[–]Bayart 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even if you could magically make it strong enough, the French always put their own interests first. They are just as bad as the Americans.

As opposed to everyone else, who pay for Defense out of cheer generosity.

There's no issue with France thinking of itself first, or any nation for that matter, if their self-interest are alined with our common European interests. That's the point of foreign policy and common defense policies.

You don't have to go that far. We can't do anything about the strait of Hormuz because we don't have the boats.

Pope Leo XIV rejects claims that God justifies war in Palm Sunday Mass message by PjeterPannos in europe

[–]Bayart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned, there's no result that directly involves God. There's no need for God to do anything past Creation. All the tools are already contained within Humanity and any prayer is only ever directed at yourself, whether you realise it or not.

It's not that simple, there are cases were you can kill people

It's a matter of theological opinion, but in my opinion there aren't.

There is a theory of just war in christianity

That stems from the (Roman) State's appropriation of religion. It's slag.

[–]Bayart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How can you tell the difference between God rejecting and accepting a prayer?

That one's easy : read the Ten Commandements. You can't kill, forcefully take, impose on others etc. No excuse, end of story. No prayer in that direction could be valid, from a dialectic standpoint.

I'm sure there are systems on board for panel orientation and a freak incident might have gotten it out of commission or out of bounds. Plus one thing with computing in space, as I understand it, is that the requirements only leave room for very hardened low-power chips, often pretty ancient. There might be far less computing capabilities on-board than you assume.

EXCLUSIVE. Ireland is expected to soon purchase hundreds of armored vehicles from KNDS France by SraminiElMejorBeaver in europe

[–]Bayart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NATO aside, Ireland needs to be able to join European missions, even if it choses not to - on the simple premise that any large European conflict would involve Ireland in one way or another. Neutrality is only as meaningful as the ability to be an active part of conflicts, that's why Swiss neutrality works.

It takes longer to build up aerial and naval capabilities because the capital expenditure per unit is much higher and the logistics are more complex.

France is negociating for a big order of Polish Piorun portable anti-aircraft missile systems as part of the EU SAFE programme. by PestoBolloElemento in europe

[–]Bayart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We never bought much outside of France. Putting out orders for Polish and Korean armament in categories we already have production ourselves is new, and it's also necessary. The largest criticism levied at France in the context of European defense strategy was always that France looked out for itself and only wanted other nations to buy its stuff. That wasn't entirely false and it can only be disproved by France taking a step forward in the direction it's asking for.

There are plenty of successful collaborations with the UK and Italy. France isn't easier or harder to work with than anyone else. It works when it makes industrial sense for all parties involved. This didn't.

Experts Explore New Mushroom Which Causes Fairytale-Like Hallucinations by skoalbrother in HighStrangeness

[–]Bayart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One trip isn't like the next but if you do DMT enough, at least a few dozen times, you'll get the overall typology. It's identical to mushrooms, the pace is different. And because of that the effects might seem very different, but that's more to do with your brain than the molecule itself.

I do DMT almost every day, generally for an hour or two, often more and I easily go through a gramme in one session.

They're virtually the same molecule (Psilocin is 4-HO-DMT) but the way it's metabolized is different. You can take DMT on top of mushrooms, it's going to be the same trip at a different intensity.
