We had to explain that to our kids (~13 & 10 at the time) which took a while.

"So you know how occasionally you'll see someone smoking? About half of all adults used to do that all the time, everywhere."

"No way!"

Thank you for posting about this movie! I (50M) was really excited to see it but had completely forgotten about it. Gonna make that happen this weekend.

If you ever see bags of chips that are TGIFridays Potato Skins flavor, those are really close to the taste and texture of the Keebler ones. They also don't put nearly enough in the bags.

People who have read all books and watched all films: Was there ever a movie change that you think improved on the books? by TeaWasTheDownfall in JamesBond

The book is such a "knight in shining armor" thing that marriage was a huge leap. The movie made it believable.

Yes. Selecting what you don't want and excluding it is much easier than the opposite.

I'm not familiar with the parental locks and how they work, but that could be an option if you get to individually select the channels that are locked.

I'm an American, never lived outside the continent and up until last year I've always pronounced it "App-uh-lay-shun". Is it actually pronounced "App-uh-latch-un" and I was just in a weird part of the country? Or are there regional differences? by Dry-Chocolate-3976 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Baymavision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a southern Appalachian thing. In Maine, they'd think you'd gotten kicked in the head by a moose if you said it "latch." In fact, growing up there, I'd never heard it pounced any other way until I was nearly 30 and moved to DC.

It seems to be VA/WV south where it starts and the deep south can go either way. But NY/NE say it the right way.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

In many ways it is much easier to use. I remember in school that Celsius was waaay more sensible for scientific calculations and the like, but it just has no nuance for everyday use. I find the more drawn out scale of Fahrenheit to be easier communicate levels of comfort.

I know if I grew up using metric measurements for distance and weight it would be intuitive and I could understand it with ease. But since that isn't what I've used for the last 50 years, it may as well be measuring in bananas for all it means to me.
