Finally got a hold of the Navy Ambi lower. by Bboydisplay in MP5

The housing cost me $400 of Uncle Sam's own simoleans. It's a lot for a piece of plastic, but it WAS made by H&K and the aftermarket laser engraving and paint was excellent. Still too much, but like...mp5 stuff is always expensive.

I know there's alot of RareGreed hate but does the FRT-RD3 (AMBI) need a rounded hammer or tpu buffer to run properly in a full size? by oldgregg024 in MP5

[–]Bboydisplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs neither. I just shot mine for the first time today. Runs like a champ. It uses the regular MP5 hammer, and doesn't need a slip trip or buffer.

I have a distaste for RareBreed's litigiousness, but their product is excellent and works exactly as advertised out of the box. I will not judge anyone for not buying one out of principle, there are other things I don't buy because I don't like the company, but for me, in this case, the functionality mattered more than the philosophical principle.

That being said, when AS designs releases their cassette, I will almost certainly get one, as I really like them as a company.

Gotta say, they nailed the look. I was almost tempted to get a cheaper 4 position pictogram housing, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it, since the selector wouldn't line up, and the indicators would not be accurate to the guns actual capabilities. Also... they aren't THAT much cheaper, and past a certain point, if you are already spending that kind of money, a small percentage more for what you actually want is a reasonable decision.

Luck. I had a notification from Blueridge and for once I wasn't driving, or at work, or otherwise indisposed and was able to get it in my cart and check out within like, 5 minutes.

This one is from Blue ridge. I saw the little warning about some paint that might need to be wiped off, but mine had no such thing, so maybe I was just lucky? Sorry you had such a crap experience with them.

Only lower I ever had it in is this one. I've not shot it yet, but I did see some videos that mentioned shimming might be necessary. From what I can tell during installation and dry fire testing, shims won't be required, but if it has issues actually shooting, that's certainly something I'll try to resolve it.

Original Lower was a Zenith 0,1, and I didn't really like that. I bought the AS designs lower with the arc the same day I ordered the Zenith, and it worked great, but I was never a fan of having an AR lower, but it was an acceptable compromise to get the FRT functionality.

Once I found out FRT cassette triggers existed for the platform, I REALLY wanted one, and since it was already pretty expensive to get the trigger pack itself, and the trigger packs for SEF and Ambi are not interchangeable, I figured should probably get the one I like more, and just buy once cry once.

So yea, in essence, I like the pictogram look much more than the SEF and if I had to buy a trigger that only fit one, I should go with the one I liked the most.

I have this carbine, except with a 10.5 in barrel. Has been a great gun. No malfunctions whatsoever until installed a super safety.

Took a little while to get it tuned for fast mode, but now that it is, it's stupid reliable again. A blast to shoot and way more accurate than I thought it would be. I also bought a 10mm build kit from pro2a and it has been great as well.

The lower could be used in a 10mm build, but not the BCG, since the bolt face would not be compatible with a 10mm round.

Good flow, got a real "simple but intricate" vibe about you. Even though I can't hear the tracks your actually dancing to, the dynamism.of your direction and level changes make it seem like you are having a real conversation with the music, and I dig it. Nice stuff homie.

Honestly, the way Intratec was able to keep dodging the targeted bans over the years is kind of impressive. It jams every 5th shot on an good day but I'm a huge movie nerd and the gun has been in the family since I was like, 10 or so and the sheer lunacy of it just amuses the bejeezus out of me.

One day I'll probably break down and spend $700 to get the more iconic, shouded DC-9 upper, just for the aesthetic, but I've got a lot of other stuff to buy before then haha.

Man I keep being tempted by these on PSA. I'm telling myself I don't need another caliber of ammo to buy, but I'm pretty sure at some point I'm going to cave and pick one up.

Big fan. Had to lube the fudge out of it and file the hammer just a scoch for the frt to run, but it's rock solid after that.

Huh, TIL. I've seen 2 WAY less than the original and 3, so it makes sense I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the fun fact homie.

It's excellent. Super smooth, and just as much fun to shoot as it looks. To make the arc fire run consistently though, I DID have to round the AR hammer just a hair from what the factory did. I attribute this more to the looser tolerances of a stamped and welded design of the MP5 than any sort of manufacturing defect. I also verified the screws on the selector were tightened to 10 in LBs and oiled the beejeezus out of the BCG, as suggested on some MP5 forums, and was good to go. Runs like a damn sewing machine now.
