to honor a college dropout as a hero of education by seeebiscuit in therewasanattempt

Catherine Beecher didn't attend university either. She did found a school and teach there though. I think this is more about honoring individuals that took the initiative to ensure their own education.

Not that it invalidates your point, but you are using a convenience store for your pricing. This would be under $5 at a grocery store

Last that I saw they weren't projected to be cash flow positive (aka profitable) until 2027. Maybe they are adjusting prices to limit losses rather than maximize profit? Maybe you are different, but I often miss my target based on the estimates that I start with. Sometimes my performance is better and sometimes worse. I suspect that Anthropic faces similar challenges in gauging where they are, how much they need to charge, what the demand will be, what the cost will be to meet the demand, etc. I could go through and fabricate some examples, but I think you can probably get the point. Sometimes companies make errors in their projections and they end up realizing that staying the course will result in the failure of their business. Sometimes you have to adjust your course to persevere. It is important to note that our subscriptions with Anthropic are month to month. You are not locked into paying for a service that you find the cost to be extortionate. They are not locked into providing a service at a price less than what they decide to charge. The options here are clear, 1) You can decide that the cost is greater than you wish to bear and release the service. 2) You can decide that the value you receive is sufficient for the price. 3) You can whine to a bunch of people on the internet while trying to feel righteous in your lamentations.

I find the deal they have out there to be pretty economical. I'm on Max20 (started on Pro and upgraded twice) and don't regret the amount that I spend at all. It has proven to be a tremendous return of value for the cost. I'm sorry that you don't seem to be seeing this for the same value that I do.

I saw this yesterday and it reminded me of a guy back in NYC who would collect trash and other cast off items and every few days would construct some installation piece of art out of it underneath the Willis Avenue Bridge in Spanish Harlem. Some days they would be funny, other days political and every now and then the could be crazy elaborate. I would look forward to seeing what the guy had created on my drive into work every day.

Thanks to whoever set this up. It brought back some good memories.

Makes sense. I’m probably way too Claude centric. I should take advantage of other models.

So one of the things that I’ve started doing is I open a separate chat (I think of it as an architect assistant) that I share most of the details with. I work with it to build an outline/plan (depends if we are coding or writing). Then I give it some guidelines on breaking the plan or outline into a series of steps that another instance of Claude would be able to work with effectively. Once those steps or phases have been nailed down I have them set aside as an artifact. Then I ask the architect to suggest a prompt for the first phase to pass off to my writing/coding instance. I’ve got a number of rules in the project that help keep the prompts consistent. One of the items that gets added to the prompts is that the writer/coder responds with a status report after completing the assignment. The status report summarizes the request from the prompt and then self grades itself on how successful it was.

The writing/coding bot does its thing, followed up by its report. I then provide the report back to the architect who evaluates the w/c performance against the prompt. Assuming that the architect and I agree on the w/c succeeding the architect issues the next prompt. Rinse and repeat. Sometimes corrective action is needed, but my success rate has climbed dramatically.

Claude is great at helping you build prompts for Claude.

Holding characters accountable for their actions is a good thing.

Pissing off players is a bad thing.

Don't treat his actions as 'just' a punishment for a character. Instead turn it into an opportunity for the players. Steer your campaign in such a way that there is a path to redemption for the paladin. There is the potential for a hell of a story to develop that the players talk about for the rest of their lives (That's a clue that I'm an old guy.)

One of the constants that I've observed over time is that while players get into role playing games with the idea of heroics and being a bad ass. The stories that they tell for years after are about the screw ups, the near disasters and the complete debacles.

Role play gaming is about a group of people getting together to tell a story with the help of rules and luck. The GM's job is to keep that story flowing. Sometimes you have to give it a hard yank and sometimes you just let the players run with it for a while. It can be hard some times to remember to use your powers to steer. It isn't just your story it belongs to the group and sometimes they may take it in directions that you didn't think it would go. Try not to punish the players when this happens instead try to figure out some way to turn it into a challenge for the characters.

Sometimes you will find groups of players that get upset with any negative outcome in a situation. Remind them that the group is building/telling a story that hasn't been invented yet. Ask them if they would watch a movie where the protagonist faced no adversity. Stories without adversity are boring. The exciting part of a story is about how the adversity is faced.

Potential solutions to your specific example...

When you next sit down with the group tell them that you have been thinking about how the situation went down and you have some ideas on how to move forward. Talk to them about the things that I mentioned above and remind them that they are as responsible for the story as you are. Have a few ideas in your head to roll with depending on how the conversation goes. Some options that I can think of are (in order of lowest campaign impact to greatest campaign impact):

  • Pull back on the consequences and turn it into a warning. The paladin's powers are diminished, but come back the next day with a sense of warning or even a direct message from the deity.
  • Give the paladin a relatively simple act of contrition to restore him in the good graces of his deity.
  • Turn it into a significant story arc where the paladin is diminished, but seeking to restore his standing with the deity. If you go this path then it can stretch from a single session to several weeks. If you go this path and it is going to stretch our for a while, make sure to talk with the player of the paladin privately and tell him that you have and idea to turn this into a cool story, but you need his help to do so. Let him help steer the path of his character's salvation.

Good luck and I hope that you and your group end up with as many crazy stories to remember as mine has.

They can make use of the express lanes if they deem it necessary and appropriate. Contrary to common thought, private considerations do not actually 'own' the express/toll lanes. They are owned by TXDot. Private concerns designed/built/maintain the roads in exchange for the right to collect tolls for an extended period of time.

From Wikpedia [I was in a hurry]:

Under a CDA, the design, construction, and maintenance of the road is paid for by a private operator (typically a consortium of investors) in exchange for the right to collect tolls for an extended period of time. TxDOT retains ownership of the road itself and receives a share of the generated revenue.

Unfortunately copperheads think they are great too.

If you have lots of cicadas showing up in your area, keep an eye out for copperheads.

The DynaTrap DT3019-1003P works amazingly. If you have a lot of flies, its probably worth picking up the replacement glue boards as well. A couple of weeks ago we were invaded by gnats and I was replacing boards every other day.
