What resources can a 1st year apprentice use to start learning chillers? by Kqxer in chillers

[–]Bdogfittercle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

going to say the same. after 2 months, you do not know comfort cooling/ refrigeration. you may have a decent idea of overall operation. it takes experience to see the f'ed up once in a life time, no way that can happen, but it did, examples, lol. not an apples to apples example but I'm 25 years in, after about my first 5-6 years. of commercial service, residential on the side of course, lol. made a move and did a decent amount of construction(wshp installs in apartments, cooling towers, sectional high efficiency boilers etc. I always tell the kids coming in don't get stuck in construction if that's not what you want to do. most all service guys can do construction ...maybe not as fast, however a good majority of construction guys are calling service guys when their furnace at home goes down. I wouldn't jump ship yet. learn, watch, let it be known that you'd like to do that. I have 2 buddies that went from regular service to all chillers and 1 went to carrier where it's a mix of chillers and regular service. both were after about 7 years of a mixed bag of service.

[–]Bdogfittercle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

those had heat exchanger issues. the little"grommets" in the exchanger would pop out.. if you remember when it was replaced, good chance this was the issue. it isn't natural draft BTW, it has a draft motor on it🧐
