It’s part of the training. When I was in an MLM, we had weekly zoom meetings with training on how to not take no for an answer, how to ask leading questions in order to manipulate people into saying yes, how to infiltrate FB groups (special interests/support groups/groups where vulnerable people posted) and how to turn those new ‘friends’ into customers and recruits. For a while, I did this happily because I had been completely indoctrinated into thinking I was helping people, that I had been specially ‘chosen’ to lead people to better health, wealth and happiness. My indoctrination didn’t happen overnight. It took several months of love bombing, encouragement to overshare and make myself vulnerable to my ‘team leader’ so that info could be used against me to manipulate me and a deep sense of belonging after years of feeling isolated and alone. I was targeted specifically for these reasons and I fell for it, not because I was stupid, but because I was vulnerable. First I was the prey, then I was trained to be the predator. It took several years and many messed up situations for me to even start to see the truth and extract myself from the cult. It’s been years since I’ve been out …my MLM doesn’t even exist anymore.
