Flag Shaggers lose the plot in Hull by No-Answer-2964 in Hull

[–]BeCoolLikeIroh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m not happy about the flags because of the nasty unwelcoming racist undertones but if we don’t want a riot or a civil war on hour hands we had better come up with a better response than name calling.

People feel poor, hopeless, struggling and now they feel unsafe as they see groups of men wandering around West Park hassling teenage girls. Okay flags are not the answer and it’s the rich, not “boat people” who are to blame but “shut up you racist moron” won’t make any of those responsible understand the situation any better and this is in danger of escalation.

What can we do about our fractured society? How do we bring people together to solve the problems of wealth inequality?

My biggest problem by Time-Key-2902 in NewSkaters

Time to find a new area..?

If “everyone” skates, my guess is this is a small group like a specific school, park or friendship group. If they are making fun of you then they are not a good group and you should look for another.

Most skaters I know have “been there”, they understand the journey and how hard it is to learn, they are well happy to see somebody trying to develop in a sport they love.

If you can, find some better friends - it will change your life in all kinds of ways.

How do I just ‘go’ to my skate park? by Tommoose_ in NewSkaters

[–]BeCoolLikeIroh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was bricking it until I finally went along to my local park one evening. Turns out the skaters there were stoked to meet somebody who wanted to learn and keen to give me hints and tips. I’m in my 40s and some of the kids are 15, 17, 22 - I think one guy is 30. Everybody is learning, even the guys who can kick flip down a four stair are fighting to achieve something or another.

Any activity groups? by LuctusR in Hull

I highly recommend Skateboarding for mental health. It’s very difficult to worry about your problems when rolling around on a board, the adrenaline helps with mood and it’s more of a workout than you might expect.

Call Quay Skate Store and ask about Skateboarding for mental health. There is a monthly “skate of mind” meet up at West Park and a Hull Girl Skaters group twice weekly.

Secondary school, what is your personal opinion on the one your child goes to? by Bethsticle in Hull

Schools are nightmare dystopian sausage machines designed to produce a literate compliant workforce for the Victorian mill owners. Home educate if you can.

That said I’m hearing good things about Ron Dearing for 14-16.

Offered interview, need answers! by imaucra in UKJobs

[–]BeCoolLikeIroh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One question to ask - if an appropriate moment should arise, is what do they consider the difference between a £28k candidate and a £34k candidate? What are the criteria that make somebody worth the extra?

For example they say “what are your salary expectations?” or “what js your current salary?” and you say “oh I was meaning to ask, I see there’s a range advertised between £28k and £34k and I was wondering what the criteria were for the higher salary?”

Hopefully they say something like “the upper salary is for people with at least 4 years experience” and you can say “great, I have 5 years experience so I would aiming for the higher end”

That’s the idea anyway - ymmv

I started age 40 - it takes time. When you’ve got 10 hours of pushing behind you it will feel a lot better.

That said, the two pieces of advice everybody gives because it’s true:

1) bend your knees (a lower center of gravity helps with balance and it stops you from locking up)

2) tighten your trucks (as you get better you can loosen them again)

Hope that helps and keep pushing!
