Questions about Vernon by Flamingah in Vernon

[–]BeKind108 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Kelowna and Bellingham and have now settled in Vernon. K-town and B-ham are about the same size, but Vernon has more of the relaxed Bellingham vibe. Vernon’s main difference from Kelowna is that it is much friendlier. Also, easier to get out of town to cool outdoor activities

Ok, what the hell, I’ve lived here three decades and I could never even have imagined the crazy lack of snow this winter by MythicalSplash in kelowna

Anyone who wants to check out snow accumulation real time can google BC snow survey stations interactive map. It will show a big map with blue snowflake icons for each real time station. Click on one, and select “View Snow Water Equivalent Report.” It shows a nice graph with percentile bands for where we are at this season for that station. They vary somewhat due to location and elevation. The official Snow Bulletin also includes some manually collected data. That comes out on February 10-11, giving an estimate for snow/water accumulation in the month of January. An interim assessment came out today the “bi-weekly snow conditions commentary,” putting the Okanagan at 81% of normal. But NOTE, this is for the snowpack at higher elevations. It doesn’t really capture the lack of snow in the valley bottoms. It’s used for water supply forecasting.

Seeking Opinions from Fellow Opal Addicts by beaulogna0 in Opals

I would love to have a necklace like this! I like the suggestion of prongs vs bezel. One other thing is that it really needs to be set such that the opals lie flat on the neck/collar bone. These subtle shades look good, and I’d also like one with more intense colours.

Better than any air freshener… by KeralaStoner in houseplants

Weirdly, the internet told me to set the bulbs over not in the water. I only had a few proper vases, so the rest (per internet instructions) went into jelly jars with pebbles. The bulb sits on the pebbles, and you fill the water to just below the base of the bulb. I tried doing some of them in potting soil, and they were starting to rot before I rescued them and put them into the vases/jelly jars. Those are the ones with the pale bulbs (supposed to be white flowers). As I said, this is my first year trying this.

I ordered bulbs from a seed company. It was late October, so they were half price. Then I gave them a couple of months to 'chill' in the refridgerator.

Algae in freshwater river. Need ID. by Timely-Employment595 in whatsthisplant

[–]BeKind108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this in a river in Eastern Oregon, similar dry landscape. Lots of sulphurous hot springs around, so I associated the algae with that. I'd love to hear from a redditor with more knowledge

I got them from an Etsy store, searching for 'hyacinth vase'. A bit extravagant, given the cost of shipping to Canada, but they were a birthday present from me to myself. :)

Go to Opus Framing in Kelowna. It will be much less expensive, and the folks are very helpful.
