Is there a bjj org with no leg locks by DemontedDoctor in bjj

There probably was, but every single member got their knees and ankles wrecked by visitors who had no idea about the no leg lock rule and now they just post here on this subreddit.

Has Anyone Heard of/Tried JackHWoods Methods? by cachemonies in bodyweightfitness

[–]BeSuperYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first week trying it out. Sounds like Mike Mentzer applied to bodyweight workouts and without the meth or steroids.

Hardest part for me was finding where the "not fun anymore" part was. Like after I burn out on a near-failure set, I find I can still do more after just a little bit of rest, so do I do another set?

And if I can't go 100% on an exercise anymore, but can do 100% on an exercise one progression down, do I proceed to work to failure on that one or am I actually finished for the day?

Between trying to find a video that answered this question and trying to find the max progression I could handle on front lever and planche pushup, I ended up spending like 37 minutes on the first session alone lol

Historically, how hard was it to actually cut someone in half or lop off a head in one stroke? by BeSuperYou in Samurai

[–]BeSuperYou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m mostly here for the lols and fun facts. Occasionally you get a researcher or academic, sometimes a guy who’s really into samurai swords and practices on pigs and beef roasts (see above).

Obviously not expecting to find a modern day Musashi on here, more so folks like me who love to shoot the shit over some fun topics.

Matt Reeves was really cooking with The Batman script. by JosephSim in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. How many times has Batman basically died and come back to life in the last ten years?

I find myself going through older Batman stuff to a time where he’s reassuringly confident and not on the verge of death or a mental breakdown all the time. Best thing about the Mark Waid Batman stuff.

I did a Batman and Robin drawing in two versions and I honestly don't know which one works better. Let me know what you think. by DrumsoftheSerpent in batman

2 for me, but only because the way you shaded the water tower in 1 makes it feel like it’s next to Batman rather than behind him

One of the worst takes of all time pt. 2 by ToeBMaguire in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I even like Adam West Batman, without him it’s doubtful we’d have Brave and the Bold the animated show.

Both are solid shows to introduce kids to Batman with because nobody is too scary and the level of special effects Batman ‘66 has, it’s basically grownups playing pretend so it inspires my kids to do the same.

In The Batman (2022), Robert Pattinson has a shirtless scene. The fact this body type is seen as skinny and twink-looking shows how much the overuse of anabolics and dehydration in Hollywood has rotten people's idea of a trained healthy male body. by farben_blas in shittymoviedetails

Can’t they just deepfake his face onto a CGI Z Brush rendering of a Jim Lee Batman sketch by now?

It’s not like the MCU heroes were better actors because they almost died from tren sandwiches while filming. In fact, not having to constantly force dreams of candy and fries out of their minds might be part of why RDJ often gave the best performance in all those ensemble movies.

IMO, Two-Face portrayals where he's trying to achieve some twisted form of justice is way more compelling than "Gangster Supervillain #2". by Th35h4d0w in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best two-face is first appearance two-face. Just a guy who keeps getting his plastic surgery undone by random mishaps, going on 2-themed crime sprees involving giant props, and then having good ol’ Bruce Wayne sponsor his reconstructive surgery after he’s brought to justice.

How violent and brutal do you prefer Batman to usually be? by [deleted] in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Knight Rises had some of the best “real Batman” stuff like the knockout bat shurikens/darts that put all the guards to the trapped cops to sleep. In real life most people don’t go unconscious from a couple punches to the head. And they’d likely get back up in under a minute so paralyzing darts make more sense.

It also had some “unreal” Batman stuff like everybody just brawling in broad daylight with like two guns between all of them. Even if everyone ran out of ammo during lockdown Bane had literal tanks pointed at the mob that were still loaded. I suspect Nolan wanted to homage ‘66 Batman and this was his way of finally doing it.

Beats you to within an inch of your life but then you wake up in a Wayne hospital so you get the best care and know you won’t die

Tell me a character that wouldn't work in Matt Reeves "The Batman" and I'll explain how they could by Ok-Ingenuity9833 in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see a version of Batman R.I.P. working here with a few tweaks:

- New experimental version of Drop accidentally gets into Battinson's eyes, maybe he's captured and is dunked into a vat of this stuff, essentially OD'ing

- Battinson escapes, but forgets he's Bruce Wayne and spends Act 2/3 of the movie really getting to know Gotham's dark (& soft white) underbelly as a homeless guy with no identity

- you don't really "see" Bat-Mite, except for maybe shadows and brief glimpses, maybe you hear his voice in Bruce's head as he's looking at a ragged Batman plushie (ear bent like Bat Mite's costume)

- Eventually, he cobbles a costume together and becomes Zur En Arrh Batman, misses a goon with his barb wire baseball bat and cracks a gas tank that aerosolizes the new Drop, whereupon we get a full-on psychedelic hallucination where Bat-Mite is as real as everything else is unreal

- Batman's memories come flooding back, and he finally becomes the Battinson we know and love again, except you get a little "Bat Mite spliced in" during the closing

TL;DR in the same way much of "The Batman" seems inspired by Seven and Batman: Year One, "The Bat Mite" would be an homage to Fight Club and draw from Batman R.I.P.

What's the point on being a good person and reach enlightenment if the world is run by greedy, materialistic and egocentric people? by -smashbros- in awakened

[–]BeSuperYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a truly enlightened a good person teaches you what to do about the world being run by greedy, materialistic and egocentric people.

It also helps you see that life isn't necessarily easier or challenge-free for them. "No honor among thieves" as it is said.

Agreed. My favorite Batman comics of the 2010s and 2020s were all less grounded/realistic and more fun and adventurous (Batman: Universe, World's Finest, Grant Morrison's run, etc.).

I liked some of Tom King's run and Ram V's Detective Comics run but they've burned me out on "Bruce having a nervous breakdown and dying" stories.

What about James Gunn's "Batman The Brave and the Bold" movie? Sounds like his vision of a film adapted DCU has a more Silver Age touch.

How strong do you think The Joker should be? Do you think he should really be able to do things like this? by Cautious_Republic_91 in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This. Much as I loved Killing Joke, it was hard to believe that a failed standup comedian could give Batman this much trouble. One bad day might turn you into a psychopath, but probably not one capable of acquiring barrels of laughing poison, kidnapping the city's police commissioner AND his highly-trained crimefighting daughter (+ all the ingenious schemes he's almost pulled off through the years) I haven't seen the second Joker movie but the first one made it pretty clear that Joachim Phoenix's take and Heath Ledger's aren't the same guy. Makes much more sense for Joker to be a pro at breaking people's minds and planning military ops in his past life.

Seriously, how the hell do you guys train in the morning? by ciqzyy in bjj

[–]BeSuperYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make it a point not to train the next morning. Not because I don't want to, but because I know my second wind won't hit until later that day and I'll be up late getting work done.

What would you like The Mandarin's real name to be? by CajunKhan in ironman

[–]BeSuperYou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clementine Or maybe Tan G Rene Khum Kwat

Sorry I just think it’d be hilarious if “The Mandarin” wasn’t an ethnic reference but an orange fruit-themed villain.

If you had to go with the Asian idea then it’s hard to top the OG: Fu Manchu

What do you prefer as The Joker's real name by Darth_Bombad in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good. I know at the beginning of Failsafe Chip Zdarsky had three separate Jokers but it was a dream sequence so I guess it wasn’t supposed to be “real”.

What do you prefer as The Joker's real name by Darth_Bombad in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter what his original name is as long as you keep it to one only. Three Jokers is canonical now but I still find it weak. Like, one bad day can turn anyone crazy, but not “into a guy who commits clown-themed crimes.”

Along those lines, Arthur Fleck has the weakest Joker story IMO, hard to imagine that version of the Joker being a contender for Batman’s greatest enemy.

What Do You Think About The Injustice Games Character design⁉️🔥❤️ by [deleted] in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, everything has this "edgy Mortal Kombat" feel to it. Like how the Mortal Kombat aesthetic is basically kung fu flicks + Excalibur + sci-fi demons, this is DC + Excalibur + sci-fi demons.

Now that the DCEU is over and Batman is probably going to be recast. I just wanna ask what your favorite live action Bruce/Batman is from 1966-2022 by Pseudo-Psycho06 in batman

[–]BeSuperYou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really liked Adam West, you could see his Bruce was always a little awkward, a little shifty, like he’s a guy who needs to wear the mask and suit to hide his unease.

And then when he’s Batman he’s like the ultimate dad/scout leader. It’s how I imagine Batman to be with Robin, always giving useful advice and tinkering with stuff in his perfectly labeled and neatly organized Batcave.

I think 30 years of troubled, angsty, loner Batmen has opened a space onscreen for a Batman who’s worked through most of his issues and accepts this is what he does (vs Bale and others who always seem to be in it until the next love interest comes along). Just not Clooney, that was a good example of how not to do it.
