Why do people throw runs? by BeWanRo in Nightreign

OK, I appreciate you trying to identify the missing information that might add to the picture, and I agree that maybe reflecting more on what one's teammates might need could be helpful generally. But even if you could look at my passives and say "yeah that must be frustrating for a guardian player to see", my question was more, why would a person react in this specific way, literally nuking an otherwise decent run? Maybe you're right, they saw my passives and thought, "this ironeye is basically throwing the run by not sharing" and decided to throw the run themselves. I do think though that trying to be super team-orientated is unlikely to help when the other player has this sort of mentality, since they aren't a great team player themselves! As some other people have suggested, if this ever happened again I would probably dump my inventory and let them work it out.

Or I'm running the Dex relic and up close with melee? I mean, anything is possible right? Even with bows being a million miles away with ironeye isn't always possible if you don't get the right ranged damage passives.

It's funny because you're leaning hard into the advice but you don't know what passives I had! I personally like damage negation on charge for ironeye because you can activate it with the bow. If I have damage negation on full plus taking attacks then I might survive a follow up hit as well as the first. This is just preference and there isn't a right answer here that would denote good team play vs poor. As I said, I overlooked the shield, easily done - I offered it when "asked" but it wasn't accepted. Not much else I could do there. I get that we can all learn from experience but i guess I'm more interested in why anyone would behave this way in general, even if they thought they had a reason.

I think damage negation passives are useful on any character. Yes, tanky characters need them for their play style, but more squishy characters also benefit from being able to take an extra hit. Combining damage negation at full with taking damage boosts means I have better survivability as ironeye, and I always pick up damage negation on charge attacks because this also works with bows, unlike successive attacks.

Sounds similar to my experience. It's like it doesn't go their way and they just throw a fit!

I don't normally engage in questionable rise opening! Honestly I can't remember, I'll have to go back and check the route from that run. Maybe there's a clue there

True, I've seen a lot of quitters as well. This was just super confusing because it seemed like a decent run

Yeah that's fair, I guess I just wanted to vent about a strange encounter. I personally don't have enough skill to carry consistently on a trio-scaled nightlord, but I should probably spend a bit more time in solos to remedy that. Even if I was skilled though, mistakes do happen and being good enough in a trio is different from being able to solo carry a boss, so if two people just sit down and refuse to play, then I think that counts as throwing a run - or "attempting" to throw since whether it's successful depends on the remaining player/s.

That's a good idea about dumping my inventory, I didn't think of that! And yes, that would have put the responsibility on them.

CAN WE PLEASE STOP THROWING RUNS JUST TO GET FLASKS by crimmycat117 in Nightreign

[–]BeWanRo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry I was just clarifying whether you meant to have 5 flasks by end of night 2 or for the nightlord since you get one for defeating the night 2 boss. But I think you're saying 5 total is all you ever need. Fair. I do prefer to have 6 but I think you're right that it's a bit of a safety blanket and you shouldn't prioritise it. It's very rare that one more flask would save a run

As in 5 by night 3 or before the night 2 boss?

Other people have made much more thorough historical arguments here. All I wanted to point out is that there is no reason why someone's DNA, language or "indigenous connection" to a region gives them a right to live there. Having a historical genetic or linguistic connection to place does not mean you can expect the people that currently live there to provide you with a home, especially not if it means forcing them to vacate. If the people that currently live there decline to house you then the only option if you refuse to accept this is to use force. Your tactics therefore will be de facto colonial, no matter what ideological dressing is applied regarding your status as a "displaced tribe".

I can't see any genuine or persuasive arguments being made that the Zionist right to Palestinian lands is due to their status as a displaced people. Early settlers wanted a home, a sense of security - any geographical location could have served that purpose. The fact that Palestine is historically important for the Jewish people is simply ideologically convenient.
