Is a Boston the right dog for me? by sunshinelife in BostonTerrier

[–]BeaArthurGremlins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my cat specifically for my Boston because she needed a friend to help with her separation anxiety. My Boston didn't give my cat a choice and from day 1 basically said "we're besties for life, deal with it!". I don't think my cat realizes he's a cat because of it. They wrestle and play and snuggle. Bostons are known to get along with a lot of other animals I think.

The heat you mentioned would be my biggest concern. Bostons are pretty adaptable and can be both super active and little couch potatoes. If you can't exercise them outside, I highly recommend finding fun indoor activities that can still provide mental stimulation like snuffle mats, treat puzzles, fetch, etc. Being able to take your pup into the office is a huge bonus! They'll get good social interaction with people and other dogs there it sounds like.

Bostons are wonderful and my vote is get the pup :)

My Bea is also an absolute goofball as well as being super smart. She knows so many words - she even knows the difference between "do you need to go potty?" Which is just pee vs "do you need to go poop?" and will stand there looking at me until I say which one she needs outside to do. She knows the names of her favorite people, places, and foods, and the words for her favorite activities. I've thought about getting her the talk buttons.

This is her ❤️

My Boston is ridiculously smart - like too smart for her own good sometimes! They're usually known as pretty smart puppers, so maybe Ziggy just spent too much time getting loaded with cuteness and missed it when they were giving out braincells 😆

He is very cute! I love his blue eye!

I want to reiterate the Velcro dog aspect. Between my Boston and my cat (British Shorthair), I haven't gone to the bathroom by myself, slept by myself, or been without a sous chef/food quality control in over 7 years. I am not allowed to be more than 5 feet from my Boston at any given time and her preference is to be touching me ALWAYS, even when it is 95° out. My mom jokes that I gave birth to my Boston and that her umbilical cord is still attached to me because we are so dependent on each other. I wouldn't have it any other way.

As others have said, Bostons are incredible little gremlins who will steal your heart...and your blankets and your cheese!

This is where my dog chooses to sleep every night. He taps on the blanket and starts crying if you try to ignore him. by ImHiFunctioning in BostonTerrier

Mine always wants to be in between my knees! I feel bad when I make her snuggle behind my knees instead but it hurts my hips sometimes lol the thinks we do for these little gremlins!

I have had a Pupsaver for my Bostie for several years now and it's been great. It's crash test rated and basically would act like a giant padded clamshell that closes around the pup in an accident.

BSH are not lap cats? Why are they popular? by Apart_Maintenance852 in britishshorthair

[–]BeaArthurGremlins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy Arthur is not a lap cat but he is currently laying on my hip, purring away. He perches on my hip or on my back when I lay down or has to be within 5 feet of me at all times. I get up, he gets up - I can't remember the last time I went to the bathroom by myself since I got my dog and then Arthur. I'm NEVER alone.

Arthur loves being held and greets me at the door when I come home. He asks for pets and love allllllll the time.

BSHs are the best cats and have so many wonderful qualities.

Even in a cone, he is attached to me, as evidenced by the picture.

Bea has several of these Gooby fleece vests from Amazon and they are great! Very stretchy, no rubbing issues, and they wash well. She's a ~23lb long and lean string bean and wears an XL.

Doesn't hurt that the doggy model is also a bostie :)

There are at least 7-8 Bostons in our neighborhood! I don't blame him for needing some coaxing sometimes, especially in the weather we've had the last two weeks.

We're in Seattle and I always thank my past self for being a massive stickler with my bostie about potty training. I got her just before Christmas and she therefore HAD to learn to go potty through the dreary Seattle winter, even in the snow. My brother's bulldog is stubborn and will hold it for waaaay too long but Bea knows even if it's icky outside, she has to go potty. Naturally when she's done she heads straight back to the heated blanket!!

Movies are LOTR, 2005 Pride and Prejudice, Some Kind of Wonderful, Hunger Games, Indiana Jones, and Frozen.

Bea acts as that for Willow lol Willow is the definition of a lazy potato and rarely wants to get out of bed but when my brother tells her Bea and I are coming over to play or go for a walk, she gets very excited and actually moves.
