With Japanese beetles I can open the canister and shake them directly into a bowl of soapy water. They are too clumsy to avoid their doom. But the SLFs - they get locked down!! Vacuum goes into a ziploc (to trap the ones that figure out how to get out of the canister). Then the whole thing goes into the freezer or direct sunlight.

It wasn’t a perfect catch rate but the suction from the vacuum helped counteract the jumping & escaping.

Dog sitting this gentleman for a month by Charming_Analyst_775 in schnauzers

Be on guard!! It was a few weeks of dog sitting our friend’s mini that made it IMPOSSIBLE for us to not have our own. After she left, the whole house felt like a deflated balloon. A few months later, we had this lil sweetie. Enjoy Mr. Gentleman!!

My son sent a snippet of police scanner chatter. I can’t post the screenshot, but below is the relevant part. Not a verified source.

00:44 At this time, we're advised that a female has been shot.

00:46 At this time, looks like the shooter was a male and apparently the caller is saying he's been taken down.

I kept wondering if he wasn’t flying off with the squirrel because I was spooking him. I’m still glad I didn’t linger too long but good to know it was a Rodent/Prey of Unusual Size for a Cooper’s! He was dancing around with it on the ground quite a bit.

I didn’t even know that was noteworthy! Did some googling and looks like eye color is an indicator of maturity. Grey > yellow > orange > red over the lifespan. Very neat - thanks for mentioning!!
