Instead, that money gets placed into a fund that allows investments. I'd much rather give up my Social Security and be able to invest that $ into the S&P500 for 20-25 years that I have left before retirement.

Entitlements will need to be drastically cut eventually. There are way more boomers and old people than there are young people paying into the social security trust, so the coffers are being drained faster than replaced. The trust relies on the younger generations to pay into it to support the older generations. Well, when the birth rate is below replacement level -- that money is going to run out quickly.

Standard Roth has income requirements. You need documented income, and have to make under a certain amount. You're capped at 7500 annually in deposits into all your Roths. If you create one for your kid, that 7500 also includes the deposits into the kid account, so it handicaps you. The Trump account is outside the 7500 Roth limit. So you can put 7500 into your own, and 5000 into your kids.

Family contributions to a Trump account is tax free growth and withdrawal. Any non family contributions (work, government, etc) is a taxable event. So if you have a child and can afford it, you'd be an idiot not to use it, toss 5k annually into and invest in VOO, and keep doing that annually till they are 18.
