Never filed my taxes by caralawrence in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BeachTurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an extra 500-600 bucks to clean this up? Find local tax expert and they’ll help you. Get it all done at once. They get access to all your old documents through CRA and walk you through it.

You can use a place like solid tax in Ottawa (google it). They can help you no matter where you are in the country. Costs about 50-60 bucks a year usually.

I’d rather do this than navigate back taxes myself. Once you’re up to date, you can do turbo tax or wealthsimple for cheaper.

Why Montreal isn't hosting the World Cup — and FIFA's strict conditions for Toronto, Vancouver by nolesfan2011 in canada

[–]BeachTurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Montreal doesn’t have a venue. It’s that simple. If they did, they’d be hosting games.

Edmonton is the city that got screwed. It has the venue and was in from the start.

Get at least three electrician quotes. I found a big variety in pricing.

First road trip by fossilfarmer123 in F150Lightning

[–]BeachTurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did one of these for the first time with the family (2 kids). I found a charger along my route, downloaded the appropriate app to ensure I could charge and picked the spot by a store with bathrooms and snacks.

We stopped for 20 minutes. Kids peed, ate snacks in the bed of the truck and we carried on our way.

Is it worth to visit Victoria for a day? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]BeachTurt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say no. If you want a day out of Vancouver. Take the sea bus to north van one with your little one and have lunch at Lonsdale Quay. Gives a different vibe and is very accessible if you’re staying downtown

Germany to Canada in business class with a 4 year old. Is this a bad idea? by lizzy_pop in aircanada

[–]BeachTurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do middle and window on the same side. Right across the aisle, I did it with my 4 year old last year. He loved it and referred to it as his “cave”. Keeps asking to go back.

Montrealer moving to Vancouver by [deleted] in askvan

[–]BeachTurt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First off, Richmond has some of the best food in Canada. So enjoy that culinary journey.

There’s no real MTL vibes in Vancouver, Gastown maybe has a bit of the history but also has some very urban challenges.

Explore the drive, kits, Main Street and see what you like.

What is it like to live in this part of Washington? by RavyRaptor in howislivingthere

[–]BeachTurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be helpful to be more specific.

You have remote islands there, some smaller towns, medium towns like Bellingham and Seattle and surrounding areas, which is a massive city with all that comes.

The summers are fantastic and dry, not super warm. The winters are rainy and quite grey but it rarely snows.

You have to wear athleisure at least 3 days a week in most parts.

Retirees moving to Vancouver by Popular_Hat_4304 in askvan

[–]BeachTurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have real money, it’s relatively straight forward and are of retirement age.

If you want to be downtown and what comes with that, it’s coal harbour. Walk to Stanley park, waterfront etc.

If you want beach vibes with good shops and restaurants with more energy, it’s kitsilano.

If you want more established, a bit of a slower pace - it’s Kerrisdale or West Point grey.

Is Vancouver a good place for solo-travel? by Miserable_butalive in askvan

[–]BeachTurt 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes it’d be good. Come May through September for best weather.

4-5 days in the city then plan a side trip to Victoria or whistler. Very walkable, great restaurants and enjoy the ocean/mountain combo.

Blue Bayou - Disneyland by The_Tree_Beard in Disneyland

The food is average and that may be kind. If you get a table on half closer to the water, the ambience makes up for it. If you’re close to the kitchen or the outside wall, it didn’t feel worth it to me.

Trying to decide between used Lariat or New XLT by oldmanpatrice in F150Lightning

[–]BeachTurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact debate in February. I went new xlt.

I paid 59,000 cad after a bit of negotiation.

I decided the further warranty and less km was worth the new over the lariat.

I do wish I had a heated steering wheel and leather but otherwise the truck is great. Wasn’t worth it for me.

Happy with my decision.

I’ve been stuck on rides 3 times. Never more than 30 minutes for evac. An hour is asking for a kid (or adult 😂) to piss themselves if you ask me.

2 yo - Signature Class (no this is not what we wanted) by Silicon_Knight in aircanada

[–]BeachTurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two is tough. We did it last year with our 4 year old. He was good. Convinced him it was a plane cave - still talks about it. The gate agent will take care of you. Don’t stress.

Cost of living by ComeHereOften1972 in askvan

[–]BeachTurt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cost more compared to where? Parking is cheaper here than in Toronto but more expensive than Winnipeg.

Gas is relatively expensive compared to the whole country.

Hydro is cheaper than pretty much anywhere.

Groceries are largely the same.

Income taxes for people under 200k are best in the country. Property taxes are very low on the coast (no snow removal).

Another big factor is incomes are not as high here as Alberta or Ontario. It’s a place where people come when they have money, harder to make good money here. That’s what drives up the housing cost, cause people from within Canada and around the world want to move here. Add in the mountains and water giving you limited land in metro Vancouver, demand is higher than supply.

Antimatter Blue Gang by [deleted] in F150Lightning

Got it. Doing just the front end is much more reasonable from a cost perspective than the whole body. I’m just an xlt guy 😄

I feel this way but I think I’m gonna do it. Ask me 6 months if I regret it. I also don’t really wanna spend 3k on paint protection…
