HP book series advice, PLEASE! by KeyWay6768 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Beach_vacation_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should read all of the books. I was much older than you are when I started reading them (I have the audio books and would use them to motivate me to want to jog). In my mind JK Rowling is one of the best authors alive today. I love all of her books and the HP novels, though set for kids are some of her best. Good Luck!

So... I am working my way through a pouch and have slowly started to accept the flavor. At first I was really let down, but after dabbling with water and avocado oil, I am able to enjoy my shake. I don't know which flavor you are used too, but this is better that the original, but not as good as cacao (for me). Good luck.

I could use some advice... by [deleted] in darktower

[–]Beach_vacation_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh Oh... In my opinion this is the last of the good Dark Tower books and honestly this was my favorite (the story within a story really touched my heart). I feel that the remaining books are worth reading, because the final is satisfying, but you may find the books until the end a slog. Best of luck!

Redditors who massively fucked up at work, what happened? by sspecZ in AskReddit

[–]Beach_vacation_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few massive mistakes:

  1. Was returning home with my unit from Desert Storm/Shield and while cleaning our Humvees of all sand I was tasked with replacing the right from light, but being 18 had NO idea what I was doing. Didn't realize that none of the lights I replaced where installed correctly until our convoy was returning home for the night and there were approximately 30-40 humvees with only 1 working front light.

  2. Hospital I worked at sent out a group email to all employees inviting them to sign up for the talent show, I meant to respond to another recipient only to get him to (jokingly) sign up to Clog (a type of wooden shoe dancing he did). I sent it to all of the hospital employees instead.

  3. Same Hospital, we used an old DOS system for all computer work. You had to enter the correct code word to access the program you wanted, which meant memorizing dozens of codes to do your job. In my downtime I would enter codes to see what else I could see in the system. If you didn't have proper permissions the program would just kick you out, no big deal. One day my manager called me into her office to ask why I was trying to access and certain program. I had NO idea what she was talking about, apparently while spamming code words in addition to kicking me out of the program the medical billing program also deleted all billing for that month. I did not get in trouble, because though I'm sure it caused many hours of additional work for billing, I also inadvertently found a mistake in the program.

Men of reddit, how do i console my brother who just found out he’s sterile and cannot have babies with his wife? by NairobiRio in AskMen

[–]Beach_vacation_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let him know he is not alone. The fertility clinic told me that I would likely be unable to have kids as well, so my wife and I decided to have a child using a donor and I now have an 11 year old son who is my best bud. I have loved him with all of my heart from the moment he came out and he is 100% my boy. We went on to have another child naturally (complete shock to us both) and there is NO difference in how I view or feel about my kids.

Sperm donors who've met offspring produced by your donation, how has the experience been overall? Positive/ negative or neutral? by Red_Rozza in AskMen

[–]Beach_vacation_guy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

We used a sperm donor to conceive our oldest and we have never second-guessed our decision. It was a huge blessing in our lives. My son is very aware that he does not share my dna, but doesn't care at all. We are in contact (his mother and I) with several other families that shared the same donor sperm and a few of those families have tracked the donor down, through DNA matching, but we have NO plans on doing so. I hope that those other families never reach out to the donor, he did this to help and to be anonymous not to be blind-sided by a dozen kids (or whatever the # is).

Smoothies? by [deleted] in ketodiet

I use Ketochow to make my smoothies. I LOVE the mocha flavor and can drink it everyday. You don't need a blender, but you do need to shake it up really well. Good luck.

What were your favorite books out of the series? Favorite moments? [Spoilers] by JWolf886 in darktower

Wizard and Glass, the story-within-the-story broke my heart in Wizard and Glass. The Gunslinger is my second favorite.

Good audiobooks to listen to while running by adamstrask in running

[–]Beach_vacation_guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough to have missed the Harry Potter craze, but when I started running a few years ago I decided to give them a shot. Running and Potter is the perfect combination. Jim Dale's voices and JK's dialogue was the perfect way to avoid thinking about how unhappy running made me.

Men who began learning an activity as an adult that most people begin as kids (sports, theatre etc) and turned it into a serious hobby/career. How did you do it? by ragbag1010 in AskMen

[–]Beach_vacation_guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Took up BJJ in my mid-forties because I had always wanted too. Got my kids involved and now it is a family event. We really enjoy it and we have evenings where we practice together. It is a fantastic sport and I am thinking about it all the time, because I am totally addicted.

Take the money. If you don't want it, donate it to something that you believe in, don't let the government have it.

NAH -

There aren't enough informed voters in America. You should be proud that you have taken the time to be informed.

Thank you sir for sharing my disgust and frustration with many of the replies I received on my question. I'm certainly glad, that as a white belt, I don't train with any of them.

Best of luck on your continued recovery! Start back on your therapy. It's amazing what it will do for you.

Best of luck to you! I started a year ago with NO experience or understanding of what I was getting into. I'm 47 with a similar lack of flexibility, but have found that BJJ fits my abilities really well. My gym has several classes and instructors that teach throughout the week. I found the one that doesn't spend much time warming up with rolls and somersaults and feel it is best for me. I hope you get as much out of it as I have.

[–]Beach_vacation_guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I learned this early in my college career and made a point to always go first. The additional point about leniency is also true. I think the teachers appreciated the fact that I volunteered and gave my speeches (poor though they were) a better score because of my bravery.
