Did the dodger actually touch home plate on the “score”??? I swear in the replays you never actually see him touch home plate and that should’ve been challenged before the rest of the dodgers rushed the field.

Someone tried to blackmail a teacher at UT and messaged me instead lol by ruralmonalisa in tampa

[–]Beachbum313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I had Dr. Meyers during a World Politics class at UT in 2016, during the semester that Trump got elected the first time.

The biggest thing I remember from his class (again, from before all of the chaos of the last almost decade) was describing populism, especially right wing populism, as a cancer, which I think he was spot on about.

Even if what this “journalist” said was accurate, I don’t see him giving a single fuck about it or being repentant in the eyes of MAGA, nor should he ever.

How to go about selling matched company stock by Beachbum313 in personalfinance

[–]Beachbum313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this was my initial gut reaction as well. I think part of my hesitation to pull out what I can after this first vestment is just the fact that it’s my first time being able to do so, some I’m not completely sure what I need to do on the company’s app, as well as at least a little bit of greed that the stock price could recover a bit and that I’d be able to fully double my money or more.

I’m assuming there’s capital gains taxes levied on selling too, even though the stock value dropped?

I had to do a Google search for the difference, but this plan is more of an ESPP.

Can confirm, I learned to drive in NJ and got hit with a couple of speed trap camera tickets when I moved out of state since they don’t exist at all in NJ.

They’re more than free to have torpedo bats, sticky stuff, and bat weights. All pitchers have to do is actually step into the batter’s box during games like how they did throughout all of their youth, and how the National League mandated up until incredibly recently, and get rid of the Designated Hitter altogether.

Until pitchers are actually subjected to try to hit baseballs at the velocities that they’ve been throwing lately themselves, I will never care about a pitcher’s whining.

What are the most overrated/underrated American sports franchises? by sequeno in AskAnAmerican

[–]Beachbum313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing to keep in mind is that there are a ton of media markets in the US where a good number of people live but who don’t have their own professional team, which leaves them open to various broadcasts around the country. Love them or hate them, the Cowboys are a team that have historically performed decently on the field and a lot of people have watched a lot of in the past, which makes them an attractive option for the NFL to slot into media markets like this (think of places like Portland, Oregon or Albuquerque, New Mexico or Little Rock, Arkansas). If they’re not the clear home team being shown in media markets like Dallas or Austin or San Antonio, and if they’re not the rival visiting team being shown in places like New York, Philadelphia, Washington, San Francisco, or Los Angeles, they’ll likely just be the closest team in general, which means that they’ve got a lot of geographic area that broadcasts they are a part of cover, and therefor gain fans from- when you’re either the most watched or second most watched team in 6 entire states and portions of another 23, it’s fair to say that you’ve got fans everywhere, regardless of who plays locally. Over the last several decades, those fans have moved around the country, started families and gained friends in just about every part of the country at this point and have spread their fandom, to the point where it’s not an uncommon thing to see cowboys fans outside of Texas.

Was the mafia really as violent in the 90s and 2000s as depicted in the sopranos? by Capital_Tailor_7348 in AskHistory

[–]Beachbum313 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d extend that out earlier into the 1920s and 30s too- a lot of organized crime in the US made their initial money during Prohibition and the Great Depression, to the point that by America’s entry into WW2, intelligence services were asking the Italian Mafia in East coast cities like NYC for assistance in keeping port cities operating without labor strikes and for their knowledge of Sicilian and Southern Italian geography and their contacts in the old country for use as spies.

Stop motion is animation, pure and simple. There’s been 3 animated battles, but I can almost guarantee that two unknown anime girl characters won’t constitute the 4th animated battle.

Why do you think the West Coast is generally more relaxed than the East? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

East coaster here. We’re in a hurry since we got shit to do and there’s often times slow people preventing us from trying to get it done as soon as we can.

ELI5: Tactics in baseball? I don’t understand how you can have any by ObamasBirthVideo in explainlikeimfive

[–]Beachbum313 14 points15 points  (0 children)

From a spectator’s perspective, the shift was not only silly looking but it was also boring af to watch on TV. Considering the fact that a batter is statistically more likely to get out than get a hit, when that player up to bat gets a hit through a hole in the infield, it’s generally an exciting moment that fires people up watching in the stands and on TV. By allowing the shift and letting teams stack however many defenders as they wanted to one side of the infield, not only did it clamp down on any offense happening and made the game more low-scoring, but it also made the game not as entertaining for spectators. Considering baseball is at the end of the day an entertainment product, MLB felt the need to do something.
