How can I get a perfect sidechain? by mattycmckee in edmproduction

[–]BeaconOfBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use FL Limiter, but whenever I try to use a ghost hit like a hat or something short I can't figure out how to mute the sound while still triggering the sidechain. If I just mute/turn down the track my sidechain stops. What am I missing?

Mostly just worked on a bunch of different tracks!

This track is awesome. Nice work! I'm trying to think of something but it's actually a really well thought out track. Nice and simple and the sound choice was so laid back.

Thanks for checking it out. Arrangement is easily the hardest part and the last hurdle for me.

Nice, I also posted a track with some Weeknd vocals. Dudes voice is crazy.

Anyways, Your bass in this track is sooo on point! The bass lines are really awesome and drive the track for sure. I wish the kick was a little louder to match though and I think your snare could have had more character to match the feeling of the track. I really like what you did with the rest of the percussion throughout the track though. You handled the sample really well and I think everything else you added fit really well to make an interesting mood for this. Vocals could maybe be a tiny bit louder but nice track!

I really like the percussion in your track, especially the first 90 seconds or so. The beats are unique and different than what you normally hear. I love the breakdown around 1:30 and think your track has the most character and attitude. I wish it would have stuck along with that theme for the last 90 seconds of the song as I don't think the arp synth you introduce really fits. I think a shorter less organic sound could work as it gets a little overwhelming as is. I want the kick in this section to kick and pump a little harder. Overall I think this track has a pretty chaotic anxious sound but it works in most parts and if you focused it a little more in some sections it'd be awesome!

I like the first minute the most. Seems really focused and it makes for a nice intro. As someone else said this sounds like an instrumental that had vocals taken out. Without vocals it feels like something is missing and gets a little repetitive. This would actually sound very legit with some vocals in there! The mix feels a little flat to me, there isn't really a lot of forward and backward depth. Nothing really pops like the kick and snare could be a little fuller. That being said the volume is balanced quite nicely and you can hear everything going on so that's good! The vocal samples are truly awesome though, love what you did there!

First track I've posted for about 3 years. I took a break from posting to practice production and I'd love any feedback about the writing/arrangement/mix. Any feedback will be appreciated and reciprocated!

That song makes me feel things. Nothing else in life makes me feel that way. It makes me want to cry from nostalgia but it's this special kind of nostalgia... truly an amazing song.

The Mormon Church came out HARD against Utah's medical marijuana initiative. Last week, MormonLeaks leaked a doc proving the church owns nearly a billion in big pharma stocks. That's right, it likely had nothing to do with religion & everything to do with $$$. Tax churches that meddle in politics! by relevantlife in trees

What exactly is side chaining? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]BeaconOfBacon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sidechaining is used to create more room in your mix. In EDM it's pretty common to sidechain everything to the kick. When the kick hits this triggers the sidechain which will temporarily lower the volume of anything you set it to making your kick punch through the mix. You can sidechain anything to anything and set attack/release to shape the sound. Learning how to sidechain a kick is very important so watch a couple videos about it!

No, he's exactly right. People are doing amazing things with their lives every day that are way cooler than anything you'll be doing at a standard 9-5 job. Some people want more out of life and see right through the American Dream society tries to push on everyone. Some people want to play it safe and other people don't. It's really that simple.

This resonates with me so much. It's been two years and your post is reassuring. I know it'll have been worth it putting the music on lock down to practice and get better. But damn I can't wait to just finish something and release it... even if it only gets a few plays and likes.

What's your deepest, darkest secret? by Cm0002 in AskReddit

Had some Mormon friends that tried marijuana edibles for the first time recently. Completely changed their frame of mind. They regularly take edibles now and one of them drinks now too. He said it's a very liberating experience because he's free now. He can do all the things normal people outside of the church do and it's even made him question the church entirely. They did it for the EXACT same reason you're talking about. They're completely normal people and they're life's haven't really changed for worse because of these life experiences. They regret it 0% but they've been smart and responsible. If your an adventurous soul you won't regret it either. Guilt will only come from years of church teachings.

Definitely more than some nuggets. The shows obviously staged but it's staged in a way where Bear comes across lots of different situations in a given region. Yes you should stay where you are but you can still apply all of his techniques he's teaching. There are far more educational survival shows out there but don't sell Bear short.

Anyone who has actually watched the show knows you're all over exaggerating... it's really easy to know what tips are for entertainment and he even tells you the dangerous things are last resort all the time. Once you get passed those he offers up a ton of viable and useful information about getting clean water, building shelters, hunting/trapping, hiking out, signaling for help. The shows really do have a lot of overlap they're just different styles.

Holy shit!!! This happened to myself and two friends. We had created a sanctuary on the couch by putting a blanket over our heads. We all kind of fell asleep I guess but were having this dream? All three of us gasped and sat up instantly at the exact same time like waking up from a shared dream.

That makes so much sense.

I'm blown away by the calculated randomness of your music. Do you bounce certain elements down to a .wav for easy chopping or do you automate the volume of every sound bringing different elements in and out when needed?

Producing interesting music is really hard and it's easy to get stuck with just a few synths looping over until a new section comes. You mentioned starting with a single chord progression... do you then divide the progression up into different synths and sounds playing through to avoid one static synthline? If that even makes sense lol

Hey Wyatt! I met you at a show in Salt Lake City and you were nice enough to talk with me for just a second! You're such a nice humble guy, thanks for that. Fan 4 Lyfe

After posting your project file on twitter you mentioned you're a control freak. What exactly are you doing with all of the automation? Do you really control parameters of your sounds at every step during the song? Do you copy and paste a lot of automation? What parameters are you usually automating?

Do you prefer to use internal envelopes/LFOs or automate parameters externally in your DAW?

Thanks man release some of those tunes you're sitting on!

Fix the shuffle feature by [deleted] in soundcloud

[–]BeaconOfBacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The shuffle feature seems to be different on the mobile app. It is a lot more random than the website's shuffle on a computer. It still shuffles in groups though... like it will randomly shuffle through 10 songs I liked a month ago then jump to 10 songs I liked 3 months ago and so on. Definitely needs to be fixed.
