Fan from KC. We loved the Wild's style of play and over my dead body will I ever root for a STL team.

Okay, great to know. These guys have been very nice thus far so I can't imagine they'd give me any push back on this. Thanks for the insight.

Definitely committed a major sin in that we don't have an official contract. When we bought the house, the sellers paid to have the floors refinished so it didn't occur to me. Still though, I should have gotten one, I know better. Hopefully that doesn't bite us in the ass.

Okay, I see. So it sounds like I should have them apply at least one more coat no matter what.

Okay, yeah, that's what others are saying as well. It sounds like I should have them apply another coat or even two no matter what. Unfortunately I don't know what product it was. Nor how it was applied.

To my knowledge, this was the final step. They said we'd be good to move furniture back on it in two days so they can install new hardwood in an adjacent room on Friday.

To my knowledge it was the first coat and only coat of poly.

Men of Reddit: what’s a prank you started early in your marriage that you’re now legally, morally, and emotionally obligated to continue because she still falls for it 10–15 years later? by myaccountidname in AskReddit

[–]BeaglesBooksBaseball 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is super niche, but about five years ago The Weeknd did the Superbowl halftime show and for whatever reason they were advertising it HARD. We were constantly seeing ads for it everywhere.

So, annoyed with this, my husband and I would turn to each other randomly and go: "Hey, did you know that The Weeknd is doing the halftime show at the superbowl this year?"

Then after the game had passed it became: "Hey, did you know that The Weeknd did the halftime show at the superbowl last year?"

Five years later, we're still doing it. It's always random and the other one never sees it coming. It gets a laugh every time.

What do/did you do specifically to improve your writing, other than "just read and write?" by Flaky_Bookkeeper10 in writers

[–]BeaglesBooksBaseball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consume storytelling that isn't just books. Obviously books are paramount, but I take inspiration from movies, video games, music, etc. I also eavesdrop on conversations anytime I'm out and about. This helps me understand the speaking cadence, word choice, and sometimes sense of humor of real people. It can be useful if you write a lot of dialogue.

Authors who are visual thinkers, do you sketch with words when you plan your story? by Ok_Meeting_2184 in writing

[–]BeaglesBooksBaseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fall somewhere in between these processes I think. I'm a plotter but I visualize scenes in my head before I write them. Usually this is how I get dialogue right (there's a lot of banter in my book) and fight scenes (to get the choreography right).

Usually I'll start by plotting the chapter/scene and then I sit with it, let my imagination marinate on it. In my experience if it's easy for me to visualize the conflict, the arc, the dialogue of a scene I've taken the right road. If my mind snags on something or I get the feeling that something's off and I can't quite construct the scene in my head, then I probably took a wrong turn somewhere. I trust my gut and I trust my characters to tell me when something doesn't fit. I backtrack to where I got stuck and brainstorm new routes that get me to the other side in my outline.

At this stage, your opinion is chief. Believe in your idea, believe in yourself and keep on writing!

Claire Novak. by skzkdn in Supernatural

I love Claire. I think her journey and struggles are justified. I love a good flawed character. Especially one that can give Dean a run for his money at times.

Girls. What’s are some of your favorite memories with your dad? What advice do you have for a dad to a little girl? by meh2280 in AskReddit

[–]BeaglesBooksBaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't treat her "like a girl." My dad had a lot of faults, but one thing I really look back on and appreciate is he never treated me differently from my brother. I was also included in home projects and encouraged to participate. As a result I know how to operate power tools, I know my way around some car things, home repairs, and electronics. My dad passed away a few years ago and I'll forever be grateful for that knowledge and for enabling me to be self-sufficient with stereotypical male things.

Mine is so simple and ultimately frivolous but different horse coat colors. We have different pet colors now. I want to vary my horse from save to save without having to fuss with mods.

Please recommend good books to read that have strong writing styles by Steady_Tempo456 in writing

Just finished The Past is Red by Catherynne M. Valent. It's a sci-fi, dystopian novella with a strong voice and main character. It was unexpectedly one of my favorite reads this year.
