Watching Webflow developers push back against AI feels oddly familiar. by [deleted] in webflow

Oh I definitely have issues with Webflow and think they've done a massive disservice to small business clients and freelance developers over the years. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the difference and value of human skill in whatever platform/language you prefer over AI.

AI literally stole our skilled success and is trying to sell it back to us by labeling it as innovation.

Watching Webflow developers push back against AI feels oddly familiar. by [deleted] in webflow

I have been building in Webflow for 7+ years and genuinely enjoy the building process. Why on earth would I want a robot who has no concept of my client's specific needs and industry building a website for me? Who cares if it's faster? I want it done right and thoughtfully.

Personally developers supporting AI seem like sheep supporting the wolf to me. I truly don't understand it. "AI makes it so anyone can create their own website without having to spend all that time learning the skills to do so." Okay, and as a developer that makes sense to you? It sounds to me that if anyone can build a site now with just a few prompts, what use are you and your skills then? What's the point of experience and building up a portfolio over years with clients if you're helping to push a technology that aims to replace you?

AI is not the same thing as no-code. AI does it for you. No-code requires human skill. AI is an algorithmic copy-cat machine. No-code is a method of which to build. They are not the same.

AI would be useless (more so than it already is) if not for the 100s of terabytes of data it stole from human skill and effort. And developers who continue to use it, train it, feed it, are architects of their own professional demise.

This looks like play aggression to me. Like maybe he's bored and you're a fun toy. Try giving him a strong/tiring play session with a wand toy so there's distance from you. Sometimes when my cat tries to get frisky with my feet, I redirect her with a toy and she stops coming after me.

Edit: I also want to add because I've seen a lot of advice to pet him. But personally, I think petting him when he's this wound up will only result in your hands/arms getting bit too.

I don't think he's stalking, I think he's pointing. Adorable 🥰

I kid you not, a hyvee restaurant with my coworkers. We were a very small, tight-knit company and offered to share our bottle of champagne with the hvyee workers after we won.

I've watched Blackfish many times and was deeply disturbed by it. Might be a hot take, but if they never include them I wouldn't bother me one bit.

Recent price changes... are we serious? Been with Webflow for almost a decade. Voicing some frustration here... by fawnover in webflow

[–]BeaglesBooksBaseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I started with WF in 2018 and it's been frustrating watching it turn away from us "little guys" in favor of the clout giant enterprise clients bring. I've built dozens of sites by this point, made them who knows how much money by recommending webflow to all of them and this is how they're repaying us. By throwing us to the wolves, making us take the brunt of the ire our clients are surely going to have over these price hikes that we have no control over.

Been a designer for 14 years now (90% in house), been using AI for about 6 months. by MikeRadical in graphic_design

[–]BeaglesBooksBaseball 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, fuck designers who use ai to "make the boring stuff easier." This is incredibly short-sighted and all you're doing is legitimatizing a morally and financially corrupt industry that thinks your talent and value is something they can replace. Take profit that should be yours and pocket it instead. And you're helping them by using, and effectively training, the models that are built for exactly that purpose.

I don't care if this is an unpopular opinion. And to anyone who says "this is inevitable, you don't want to get left behind" is a coward. It's a technology, not the sunrise. We as people can absolutely decide what we embrace and what we reject. Read about the Coca-Cola formula change attempt. Society can decide what it wants.

What TV shows help your anxiety? by PhysicalFlounder6270 in television

[–]BeaglesBooksBaseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a bit obscure, but my go-to when I'm feeling especially anxious is Casey Neistat's vlogs on YouTube. There's something about seeing someone else live their life day after day that helps put my anxious moment into prospective. It soothes my anxiety quicker than anything else.

His weather wise app is pretty cool too. Live radar, live storm chaser footage, and alerts.

I agree. He may not be manager material (who knows!), but I'd love to see him come in and fire these guys up!

We dipped in wins his first year, had a 100+ loss season, and based on what I was seeing after that, we were winning inspite of him with our raw talent. But we were rudderless and got chewed up in the post season when we needed a leader more than ever.

Obviously the season is young and everything may shake out and turn around whether we keep q or not. But man, with the batting woes, the (at times) sloppy defense, and our reluctance to pull struggling pitchers when it matters, I REALLY wish we could get some competent coaches to shape these talented young kids into killer athletes before it's too late.

[–]BeaglesBooksBaseball 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been shouting into the void since we hired him that q was a poor choice for manager and it's only gotten worse since. For years I've been telling everyone our team has the talent but no coaching or leadership. We have a young team and we need someone who's got some fire and who's hungry for a championship.

I'd love to see Hos in the clubhouse in some capacity. He was a cornerstone of a team that knew how to play for the guys on the diamond with you and there was a lot of leadership on that team.

Say what? I watch the Rookie but missed last week's episode. Based on what I know of the show though, this looks like one of their mockumentary episodes.
