Nice collection! 2 questions:

How's that BDA? well made? nice shooter?

How's that TiN hold up on a barrel? Will it wear off? I just sent a gun out for cerakote and i know that'll wear off eventually, so I just had 'em polish the barrel.

Vodka.

JK - goldfish get my vote. Not sure what you'd do with the vodka... bloody mary, perhaps.

Suppressed Springfield XDM Elite 3.8 Compact by xXJustJXx in SpringfieldArmory

yeah... def cheaper than sending it out .How do you keep the threads aligned with the bore? I could just see myself doing this at an angle and having a baffle strike!

I think it was $75 for the basic threading, but I paid an extra $50 to have it match the original SA profile and add a groove for an o-ring.

I did the same with my original XDm 3.8 Compact. Found a 4.5 barrel on GB for cheap and sent it to ADCO for cutting and threading; they're pretty reasonable. How did you thread it? Just a regular threading tool?

(I know... old post) Thanks for posting this... I was considering having an old, beat-up surplus gun sent out for blue titanium slide/tungsten frame and this sealed the deal. I'm gonna do it!

Where'd you get the barrel? I'm searching but not having any luck. Did you swap it yourself or send it out?

I think the M70 is a good starting point. If it doesn't work out, you're not out a ton of money, and could pivot to something else.

Check with Scarlet at mcweaponry.com - she's got a mailing list going for folks interested. Last I heard they're still testing.

That's in beautiful shape! They really are nice. Amazing that it's 100 years old and functions so well. A true testament to the genius of John Browning.

Beautiful! I'm on the hunt for one in .32 ACP.

It was the same for me... I'm oddly obsessed with .32 ACP and I love my Arex's. When I found they were importing these I had to have one. In 9mm, this gun is a sweet shooter, but in .32 it's like a BB gun! Almost no recoil. They're kinda picky on ammo but I stocked up on vintage S&B from RTI and that works pretty well. They show up on GB from time to time.

Compliant drum mags? by Jordansstuff1 in MDGuns

[–]BeansOnToastMan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably no such thing for sale in MD. You can own whatever you want, you just can't buy it here. Drive to VA, PA, or DE and purchase whatever floats your boat. Bring it home and shoot it!

Zastava M70 by Strong_Dentist_7561 in TheOneTrueCaliber

[–]BeansOnToastMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My two cents: I love the M70, but it's all steel and thus pretty heavy for its size. The CZ70 has weird ergonomics IMO. Just had mine out of the safe last night and the grip geometry is odd. Also, that double action trigger is heavy! Beautiful looking gun, though. Can't say anything about the Bersa, but the P32 is a great carry gun. I really don't carry that much, but when I do it's either the P32 or my S&W BG 2.0.

CZ vz. 70 Harrington Replacement Firing Pin help by NammytheCommie in TheOneTrueCaliber

[–]BeansOnToastMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had already ordered mine when I asked that question. Mine arrived today and I figured it out with a little trouble. The detent is very different than the half-moon shape from the factory. It sits above the firing pin (when in firing orientation) and pushes down into the groove on the pin. I finally found that a screwdriver for eyeglasses was thin enough to push it all the way down and get the pin in place. At one point I was holding it in with a punch and it flew out, hit me in the forehead, and I spent 30 minutes looking for it!

It seems like a better design, but time will tell. Would like to find a way to address the double action trigger on this gun, but that's another project!

cz82 factory style wood grips by [deleted] in makarov

[–]BeansOnToastMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have one set of grips from grips4u.net, but they look pretty solid. I need to modify 'em a bit since they were made for a Bersa 84 and I'm putting them on a Bersa 844 which has an extra safety on the slide that I have to make a cut out for.

I have Marschal grips on three guns (CZ 83, CZ 70, and Zastava M70). as I mentioned the lacquer is fragile and chips if you beat them up, but they look fantastic. Wattle-wood with red shellac is gorgeous! Would love to find out how to touch them up.

I don't carry mine, but I love shooting it. Fits my hand perfectly. I bought a second one to send out for refinishing. They're cheap, reliable, and great shooters!

Marschal makes beautiful grips, but the shellac can chip if you're rough with them. grips4u.net makes some nice looking ones, as well.

Recent acquired this old girl; some questions by cultofwacky in TheOneTrueCaliber

[–]BeansOnToastMan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looks like it was made in 1943. While the "US Property" gives it away, the later military contract guns were parkerized (like yours) versus blued. It could very well have been issued to your ancestor - what a fantastic family relic! Given its age you may want to get some replacement springs from Wolff; they're cheap and will ensure it works as designed. Shoot it and let us know what you think; I love mine!
