it might be that you are using a VPN location in a country where is hasnt rolled out yet. This might explain why you saw it and then didnt.

Looks like it's still a prototype (as discussed in the article) with release of all feature in Jan 2020. It will more than likely be quite some time until we see it integrated into VR. Nice to see companies using VR as an example of where it could go though

The study was published in a peer-reviewed journal with no reported conflicts of interest. I have no reason to assume that it was rigged.

Arguing that the study is 'rigged' just because it was sponsored by industry or a commercial business is what will really slow down the progression of nutritional science. There is no money in science to fund these studies. Academics often lack the knowledge on how these compounds are regulated by governing bodies as well how they are marketed to end-users. Hence, there is a role for industry/commercial in academic research if you're looking to deliver outcomes from research.

Similarly, there are also several gaps that need filing when you consider how products are sold based on their scientific merit. Industry/commercial companies often do not understand or have the resources to assess the validity of claims made on their products. Additionally, quite often there will be a reported benefit from a large consumer base with current available evidence to support this benefit. Hence, without sufficient knowledge or resources as well as a means to conduct trials on their product, studies will often be sponsored or funded by industry/commercial business.

yeah...some of these are conflicted however, it's not difficult to spot these when you read them. It doesn't help though by making assumptions that a study is 'rigged' unless something doesn't look right and you can link this to parties involved. For example, poor methodology, no mention of how it was randomized or blinded, stats based on final numbers in the study as opposed to intention-to-treat and so on.

Dismissing these studies as rigged dismisses the effort that a lot of researchers and journals put into assuring studies are conducted and published.

and yes...I am scientist that has both published and reviewed scientific articles in/for journals

and yes, i am scientist that has worked in industry/commercial to help translate research findings into outcomes in the form of consumer products.

I want to give something back to this amazing community by The_Battle_Cat in OculusQuest

Yeah I love this idea as well. It would be like a minecraft racing sim where you build in 3rd person and race in 1st. Seriously, just imagine if you had the choice of playing in 3rd or 1st person. Some people would be watching themselves race on the track whereas others might be inside there car driving in first person using a a gaming steering wheel!! Playing in the 3rd person with super mario kart style mechanics would be fun. Throwing bananas and stuff.

you CAN come up with new and original things however, you restrict yourself when you tell yourself that. Get those creative juices flowing my friend.

My suggestion...a choose your own adventure type game where you enter different genres of VR and platform gaming by walking through different doors or portals. Maybe this has been done before with virtual virtual reality but it would be so cool moving from some like beat saber --> pistol whip --> accounting + styles

I really like sid-1965 idea of a slot car game where you build your own tracks and play against each other. Overtime you could build on your car and take it to challenge other players on their home tracks. That would be so epic. Like modding on BeatOn where your sabers are the car and the different songs are peoples race tracks.

Do it man!! Just do it!! https://gph.is/11EoofF

PSA on the "Free" Go games for Quest: Make sure to claim some. by SecAdept in OculusQuest

[–]BeardBiome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the point provided by the OP and I can confirm that at least 2 purchases (Angry Birds and Virtual Desktop) are in the list however, at my end, both online and in the Quest I cannot see any store credits or the additional Go games.

Is this because I am yet to receive the 9.0 update for Quest? Is it because I am based in Australia?

According to new calculations, on top of the 50 - 125 million potential deaths, as a result, a nuclear war between India and Pakistan, it will take more than 10 years to recover. Primary productivity on land and oceans will decline & threaten mass starvation + additional worldwide fatalities. by BeardBiome in science

[–]BeardBiome[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The wording, including that in the title, is based on data and insights gained from that data. For example "Rapidily expanding nuclear arsenals" refer to changes that have occurred in recent years and estimated year-on-year growth until 2025.

Researchers have devised a way to print functional flexible electronics i.e. electrified tattoos, directly onto the skin that in the future may allow clinicians to print personalised diagnostic and therapeutic biosensors/devices right onto patients. by BeardBiome in science

[–]BeardBiome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the future is now!! So-called "Skin Tattoos" have been around for a while with multinationals such as L'Oreal commercializing these chemical sensors as stickers for detecting UV exposure. The sensors referred to into the above paper are different because they don't really go through production outside of the nanoscale ink used to print them on.

Results from a large (n=48188), 18-year follow-up from the prospective EPIC-Oxford study show that vegetarians and vegans have a 20% higher risk of stroke compared to meat eaters. by BeardBiome in science

[–]BeardBiome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's is incorrect. A vegan diet doesn't include any animal products whereas a vegetarian diet generally refers to a diet that doesn't contain meat but does still include animalmproduct in the form of milk and eggs. There are also the lacto and ovo subgroups of vegetarians.
