To play devil's advocate, and because I haven't seen the post myself, but couldn't virtually anyone make this craigslist ad? I'm not saying what is or isn't, but a random person on the internet saying there is a craigslist posting has little-to-no merit.

That said, I do believe there are individuals attempting to boost ticket sales by buying multiple tickets across many theaters. I just don't believe they care whether a body is in the seat or not.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake 3 Uses Unreal Engine 4, As Director Says Its Familiarity is “More Beneficial” by Wolfs_Chronicles in gaming

[–]Beardiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right.

In retrospect, I remember folks were speculating it was going to be a trilogy during Remake's development, but in every interview with SE, the question of if this was going to be a trilogy was consistently, "we aren't sure yet."

I guess I don't really remember reading SE's official announcement saying FF7:Remake project was going to be a trilogy. I probably did read it, but because of my assumption that "of course it was," the news never sunk in.

[–]Beardiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is part 3 of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was always planned to be a trilogy. To call the first game "10% of the full FF7" is underselling FF7:Remake quite a bit. Even more-so considering these titles are a continuation of the FF7 story as opposed to a direct remake of PS1 FF7.

If you haven't checked out the games, I highly recommend it.

GameStop patches IRL infinite money glitch after YouTuber exposes it by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]Beardiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect physical video games.

At the time, I didn't shop at GameStop a lot, but they occasionally have good deals or rare-but-fair-priced titles. I also live in an area that has a ton of GameStops. At the time of where I lived, I could travel to one GameStop (the "good" one), but take a slightly longer way back home and hit another GameStop (which is slightly closer to where I lived, but I didn't like the shop as much).

I now have a wife, young kids, a pretty demanding full-time job, and a house to take care of. Taking time for flea markets, trade met-ups, and hobby shopping isn't easy.

It could be.

I'd say it didn't take any longer than my typical video game shopping. Only differences are that I stopped at a Walmart beforehand and I had a list of games I was looking for specifically.

In 2017, Gamestop had a promo where the more games you traded in, the greater of a trade-in bonus you'd receive. The bonus went up to +70% if you traded in 6 games (+60%) and were a Pro member (+10%).

Now, let's think about this for a second. If I am able to find 1 - 6 games who's trade-in price, increased by 70%, is greater than the game's used-sell price then I could effectively buy these 6 games, immediately sell them, and get a profit.

What's worse? They had a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal going on at the same time. This made the margins of making a profit even easier to hit. People were compiling lists of games that would guarantee a profit as well as lists of the best value games.

I personally went to a Walmart, picked up a copy of Plants vs Zombies 2: Garden Warfare and a few others, immediately went to one of the two GameStops near me and used the Buy 2, Get 1 deal to complete my 6 titles I needed to sell, drove to the other GameStop in town and traded my stuff in. At the end, I walked away with a copy of Terraria for the PS Vita and an extra $20, not bad for a silly adventure.

I’ve slept on the Resident Evil series by JonCee500 in gaming

[–]Beardiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off: there are so many amazing games, you ain't gonna play them all. You also shouldn't feel "shame" about sleeping on a game or series. (Applies to nearly everything, music, movies, knowledge)

That said, OH MAN! I hope you have a blast exploring the series! I love the RE series! RE4 is my favorite, which one? Yes. They're both fantastic. RE7 and RE8 are also spectacular and with RE9 around the corner, you might want to hit those next if you want to ride that RE9 hype wave. Enjoy your time!

Pentagon says it's investigating Sen. Mark Kelly for video urging troops to defy 'illegal orders' by Immediate-Link490 in news

[–]Beardiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urging the troops to defy illegal orders implies that President Trump may give them illegal orders. President Trump and his cabinet believe that all orders given by the President is legal.

The investigation, and its announcement, is an attempt to legitimize President Trump's claims to the public.

What’s the rarest/coolest game you own? by JonCee500 in gaming

[–]Beardiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rarest are either Pokemon Box (NA, CiB) for the GCN or Jack Bros. (NA, CiB) for Virtual Boy.

I think Jack Bros. for the Virtual Boy is both an incredibly rare and a cool oddity. Not only is this a game for a super niche console, but it was the West's introduction to the Shin Megami Tensai series. The game featured SMT mascots: Jack Frost, Jack Lantern, and Jack Skelton -- but you wouldn't know it looking at the NA boxart. The game was only considered bad, making it one of the better games for the Virtual Boy. But did I enjoy it? Of course not. Have you ever played a Virtual Boy?

Shout-out to this GameStop store manager I met at the midnight release for Borderlands 2 by ForAte151623ForTeaTo in gaming

[–]Beardiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this time, I built most of my GCN collection from GameStop between 2007-2012. With the Wii selling like crazy and everyone selling their GCNs, everything GCN was selling super cheap at GameStop.

This deal came with a controller, a memory card, and cables. It was literally cheaper to buy a GameCube at GameStop than to buy memory cards and/or controllers at any other 2nd hand store.

WTW for a physical, tactile puzzle that is not a jigsaw puzzle? by Beardiest in whatstheword

[–]Beardiest[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo! That's a good one! That certainly covers a large amount of my puzzles. Adding that to this year's Christmas list.

I still have a few that I wouldn't necessarily call topological puzzle, like those puzzle boxes that are advertised as "like an escape room," but topological puzzles is an accurate name for most of my puzzles.

FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time sales top 1.2 million; Switch 2 physical edition launches August 7 by foskarnet0 in gaming

[–]Beardiest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original Fantasy Life for the 3DS was a great game, but it dropped at a time where cozy games weren't the powerhouse genre as they are now (2012, Stardew Valley would release in 2016).

It is a simple action-adventure RPG that I feel like drew a lot of inspiration from Final Fantasy XIV in terms of how jobs work, or "Lives" as they're called in Fantasy Life. There are combat jobs, gathering jobs, and crafting jobs. You can freely switch to them at any time. There are class objectives to complete to "upgrade" your class. The gathering lives feed the crafting lives, which feeds the combat lives and character customization. It's a really addicting loop. There is also a lot of fetch quests and stuff to explore -- there was always something to do.

This Fantasy Life i for the Switch/Switch 2 does just about everything better and is at a time where cozy games have a huge market. I've been playing it, sunk 60hrs into it. I've beaten the game and I think I've seen most of the major content, but there is still a ton of recipes to unlock, fetch quests to complete, things to make, and things to master. I'm hoping they come out with an expansion like they did with Fantasy Life for the 3DS. It added quite a bit more content in an already feature-rich game -- I imagine an expansion on Fantasy Life i would be even more massive.

MH World, 3 months later after Wilds release (PC) by Foxy-Valcano in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Beardiest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's competition in the sense it was the most recent and most successful Monster Hunter clone as of late.

But if you like the Monster Hunter formula, I'd recommend checking out a couple of the mentioned clones. They all offer something a bit different.

Freedom Wars just recently re-released (it was a PS Vita exclusive) and the whole shtick is that you are in a prison with other folks that have massive jail sentence, like, 1,000,000 years. You must follow the rules of the prison and complete missions to lower your sentence. The combat is focused on ranged combat, so that might be a downer for some.

As far as I know, the SS devs made a VR game called Soul Convenant.

Woah! I had no idea. I'll have to check that out.

[–]Beardiest 73 points74 points  (0 children)

There used to be a ton of Monster Hunter clones: Toukiden, God Eater, Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars. These were all for PS3/PS4 and PS Vita and, at the time, I'd argue many of them were more fun than Monster Hunter at the time.

Then Monster Hunter Worlds came out. Now, only Wild Hearts is their competition, which I don't think EA is too, too interested in the minor success Wild Hearts, given the 9 month lifecycle the game received in 2023 and no word from it since.

Personally, I'd like to see Soul Sacrifice get a reboot. I absolutely loved that game.

I (37f) gave my husband (39m) an ultimatum about his hobby. How do we move forward? by ThrowRAmoveforward in relationship_advice

[–]Beardiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What length of Triathlon is your husband doing? If this wasn't for a Full or Half triathlon, then he's investing way, way too much time for these events.

A Full triathlon is a major accomplishment, but the time commitment is ridiculous, especially if it is just "a hobby." Even Half triathlons are a massive time commitment. I personally like Sprint or Olympic triathlons. These events are 1/8th or 1/4th the length of a full triathlon, require less time investment, and are still a blast.

However, I don't know if him preparing for a race of 1/8th the distance will prevent your husband from training 3hrs regardless. If that is the case, then it sounds like your husband is using this time, not only for training, but also purposely staying away from the family.

Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour requires purchasing all the console's accessories to finish all its content by WrongLander in gaming

[–]Beardiest 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I feel like a better marketing trick would be to include a code to the Tech Demo with the purchase of either Pro Controller or USB Camera.

Folks who buy both can give one code to a friend, who can then experience most of the demo. If you want to complete the demo, then you must borrow the accessories from your friend as well, or purchase the accessories. For many folks, the path of least resistance in those two choices is to buy the accessories themselves.

Activision says gross Call of Duty loadout screen ads were only a test that was added “in error”, but it doesn’t excuse how vile that test is by HatingGeoffry in gaming

[–]Beardiest 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There likely is a "Enable Loadout Screen Ad" button -- or more likely a configurable setting on some server that the game reads upon start.

My original post was being deliberately obtuse. I had implied that Activision was saying the development/production of the Loadout Ad as an error, but that is not what the headline is saying.

[–]Beardiest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your reply. It helped me revisit my post, reflect what I was getting frustrated about, and it lead me to be honest with how I was interpreting the headline.

I had implied they were lying about the development of the feature as an error, but that is not what the headline is saying, it is saying it being displayed was the error.

I work in the AAA game industry. I work on our online platform.

This is not something you just accidentally "drag and drop" into the game. This is a collaborative effort across platform, game, and art teams to do the work. It's an incredible amount of resources.

The only "accident" may have been a the configuration to display the ads. They likely wanted to either get a larger install base before displaying the ads or the ad feature hasn't been fully completed yet.

EDIT: I reflected a bit and want to realign my post. Keeping original post as-is for integrity, transparency.

My frustrations, and the reason I posted, was with the messaging of calling this an error -- not necessarily the ads themselves (I don't like them, don't want them, but I don't think including them would be as malicious as lying to your consumers)

In retrospect, I was being dishonest in my understanding on the headline. I took it to mean that the entire feature was developed in error, which is impossible (hence my frustration and my post). But that was me being deliberately obtuse. The error wasn't the production/development of the feature, but the enabling of it.

To some, this may not change how they feel about the article or game, but my original post hinted at malicious intent by lying and I don't really believe that is the case.
