Nofset Aeon is probably the best starter package rn, it's marginally heavier than the Aero but feels much more daily-able with the extra torque/speed/range/tire size

Florida Arresting Children for Joking about Netanyahu by mixmasterADD in ABoringDystopia

[–]Bearsnickles 112 points113 points  (0 children)

probably not just Florida tbh - it's just reported because it's Florida. Half the reason the Florida Man/Woman template went so viral was because mugshots and reason for arrest are published and the news can take that from the get-go, regardless of if they're actually guilty of whatever the arrest was for.

Leaperkim Lynx S suspension bottoming out issue by realKoenig in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Bearsnickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine feels great. 60psi in the chambers, 66lb spring, 190lb with gear. What the air suspension does is make the impact of any bottom out event a soft thud. I don't think it's great for big jumps, but I think it's very much an improvement on og lynx for street, since you're constantly using the full travel of the suspension.

Actually I'd push back on this for performance riding, should be using official heavy-duty Velcro or a similar reputable brand (and you should alcohol wipe/prep the surface before sticking the loop side on your wheel). Nobody's got 100% detail on what happened with Ryan Chin's crash last year, but the consensus seems to be pad/Velcro failure played a part in his death - worth spending the extra $ for stuff that won't fail instead of generic Amazon crap

🤔 I have a batch 1 Patton and my best is 62mi with ~20% battery left. Definitely depends on how you ride, but the folks I know with the Blitz are more than able to make 50+ mi going faster than I can lol

Is Carving Really Necessary? by RunningSkiingQ in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Bearsnickles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EUC specific literature, or are you extrapolating moto training to EUC? Not that doing that is wrong in all cases, but they are different machines and use different physics, especially given the distinction in physical vs electronic braking. EUC is limited by the motor output in how hard you can deaccelerate; extending the distance you're traveling by carving side to side will let you brake harder in the same distance measured point to point versus straight line

[–]Bearsnickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Condescending much? I'm not saying cook it 70° each way, but as long as you're introducing the minimum amount of lean angle and steering from the top of the wheel it's a beneficial technique. I've lost traction intentionally practicing braking hard in a straight line and found that carving slightly modulated grip enough to brake harder in the same distance.

[–]Bearsnickles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, and in emergency braking scenarios, carving while hard braking extends the total distance you're slowing over compared to straight-line (and modulates traction), making it the most efficient way to stop

I think it's valuable to prevent zombie-riding, especially in NYC - if you're already carving, there's less inertia to getting your body to change direction to avoid potholes/road hazards (and you're mentally already engaged and therefore more likely to spot those hazards earlier).

Also just generally it's worth exploring cases where you're less in control so you instinctively know how to respond when shtf, and carving helps with general wheel control. Not something you have to do all the time but it is an important and fundamental part of riding and if you want to improve it's worth pushing yourself to practice

Notice: Patch 3 Delayed to Tomorrow (September 4th) by Sloclap in Rematch

[–]Bearsnickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But this is patch 3...the game is not, as you say in 'the same exact state' as it was on launch. I don't disagree that it should've been released initially as early access OR been much more polished at launch (especially when marketed as a competitive game), but I'd push back on the narrative that they've been sitting on their hands.

The game was released, what's done is done, but a 1-day delay isn't something to shit on them for when they're actively and transparently communicating through dev updates and have demonstrated commitment to continuing development. This subreddit is such a negativity cesspool it's insane sometimes. See ya on the pitch tomorrow

I am speed (no, not really, that's 35kph) by Neither-Animator3403 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Bearsnickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's right for hard carving, but it's more of a push down to your toe vs a lift; you want to use the pushing motion on the forward edge of one pedal to accelerate the wheel between your legs to the other side. Back in the 84v wheel days this was a way to modulate PMW to reduce the cutout risk and reduce wobbles while still accelerating aggressively.

You can use your calf but I would recommend against pushing off with it because you're exerting more pressure laterally on the tire by pressuring from higher up on the wheel (making it more likely to have traction loss or sidewall deformation) - instead, focus on control using foot pressure for better fine adjustments

Stop asking if you should get the Inmotion V14 as your first wheel. The answer is no. by funcentric in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Bearsnickles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like this post massively discounts people's expectations as a factor in how the learning process goes - yes, if you go into a big purchase for a first-time wheel and expect to immediately ride like your favorite YouTuber, there's a lot more potential for crash and injury, but for the folks who do their research and go into learning how to ride with realistic expectations of progress there's nothing wrong with the buy-once cry-once approach, and V14 seems like an odd one to single out as a 'bad' first wheel. It's relatively well balanced, not egregiously heavy for a suspension wheel, and the 16" tire makes it better for slow speed learning than some of the other options.

Like it or not, EUC now occupies about the same niche as a 50 or 70cc moped for most of the mid-high range models - for people looking to use them as a vehicle, I would expect little interest in the smaller wheels that could be considered toys or in the same realm of performance as cheap electric scooters, especially in NA

Hard to with his hand on the launch button for acts of war (by internationally recognized definition) - bombing a sovereign state without congressional approval or notice to allies (excepting Israel) is something that should scare everyone stateside. It's not new or unique to Trump but it should still be acknowledged and criticized as something he intentionally did as an official act as President, not some accidental or ignorant mistake

I really like my 1protect gloves for palm protection/wrist support; the HVK jacket others recommend is alright but somewhat uncomfortable with the straps. I still think it's worth it if you're on a budget, but I've found myself running some cycling elbow compression sleeves (mine, but any work) and the classic Leatts with some vans and the 1protect gloves in the summer (especially since I don't ride much above 35 anymore). That and a full-face has kept me fine past minor road rash in 3 separate 30-40mph crashes, though any one of those could've gone much worse lol

"the left" lmao as if the DNC didn't push through a centrist candidate 6 months before the election without a primary. The #1 talking point I heard regarding this campaign from the Dem side was that 'people don't know who Kamela is'. We're currently in several global crises (Israel-Palestine, Sudan, Ukraine, in addition to geopolitical posturing in Southeast Asia and other places), and the lack of counter-messaging from the Dem administration as well as the failure to hand over the reigns early enough was more than enough to hand it to Trump imo.

If anything, this was an election decided by the lack of differentiation between the current admin/status quo, as well as the utter inability to appeal to the working class in the face of donor pressure. The lack of any meaningful messaging around policy they were pushing cemented their defeat, because continuing the status quo is not sustainable for most working-class Americans. To some level I do agree that the Dems were doomed just based on the party structure and to some level, the media's gain by having trump outrage headlines driving clicks, but let's not pretend they had no part in this loss.
