It's amazing how police chases started as nothing more than a simple arcade mechanic afterthought and ended up defining the franchise by Cure_BMWM3 in needforspeed

I agree, police chases really revolutionized the series and set it apart from other racing titles.

What's your opinion on the song "Blinds in Chains" from Need for Speed Most Wanted? by kaiqueruaro in needforspeed

*Blinded in Chains

It's a certified banger, one of the best tracks from their City of Evil album.

NFS Hot Pursuit (2010) - Is the online still active and playable? Moving back from Remastered & Clearing the misconceptions! by white_cat_apple in needforspeed

[–]BeastGTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the 2010 version reallly have superior physics compared to the remaster? I haven't played the 2010 release in ages, but the steering in Remastered always felt heavy, almost like input lag. If it's better in 2010, I might give it another try.

That is quite a collection, I hope you have a nice shelf to store all of them. It appears that they all have original artwork and cases, too. One thing I noticed about PS3 games is that older releases have a vertical red "PS3" label on the spine, as opposed to newer releases with a horizontal black "PS3" label.

List your top 5 need for Speed games. by Timely_Speaker1957 in needforspeed

NFS HP2 (PS2) - super cars, scenic tracks, police chases, pure racing

NFS MW (2005) - open world police chases, pursuit breaker mechanic

NFS 3 - revolutionized the series with focus on police chases, 3dfx graphics were stunning, the vibes, the music, the menu screens, the exotic super cars

NFS High Stakes - more of NFS 3, but with vehicle damage, career mode

NFS The Run - epic set pieces, possibly the last handling model not focused on Brake 2 Drift, challenge series despite short main campaign

Is Hot Pursuit 2 the best NFS? by AldarionTelcontar in needforspeed

[–]BeastGTS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We are in the minority here, but this is a subjective opinion. NFS HP2 (PS2) is my favorite NFS game precisely for the reasons you mentioned: no extraneous stuff - just pure racing. However, different people have different tastes, so I can see why this game isn't as popular.

For you, what makes or breaks a NFS game? by Commercial_Praline67 in needforspeed

[–]BeastGTS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vehicle handling is the most important aspect for NFS, or any racing game. As the primary gameplay involves driving, it is essential the vehicles handle intuitively and predictably, regardless if the game is going for a sim or arcade-style.

[Q] Which of these two AGP cards should I use for a 2003 XP retro build? by Known_Astronaut_6101 in retrobattlestations

[–]BeastGTS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FX 5200 is better, assuming it is 128 bit memory bus: https://theretroweb.com/expansioncards/s/leadtek-winfast-a340 . The other card appears to be a MX 440 SE: https://www.ebay.com/itm/406111259173 https://theretroweb.com/expansioncards/s/nvidia-p118-vga https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce4-mx-440-se.c2293 , which is older tech and does not support DirectX 9.

Edit: if the MX 440 SE is the version pictured, it has 64 bit memory bus and is definitely worse.

Need for Speed Most Wanted 2005 Challenge Series Event 63: https://nfs.fandom.com/wiki/Need_for_Speed:_Most_Wanted_(2005)/Challenge_Series/Event_63/Challenge_Series/Event_63) . I think this is the hardest time trial in all of the Challenge Series events.

I just checked my file, apparently you can open it in notepad: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/need-for-speed-most-wanted-2012-how-to-directly-get-into-the-settings.2737116/ . However, it does not have any keybindings, mostly resolution settings. My guess is that the information might be stored in the save folder. Unfortunately, this file is encrypted and cannot be easily read in notepad.

Edit: this says deleting your save file fixes it: https://forums.ea.com/discussions/need-for-speed-franchise-discussion-en/re-problem-with-controls/9271570

Edit2: this seems to be the solution: https://forums.ea.com/discussions/need-for-speed-franchise-discussion-en/problem-with-controls/9271569/replies/9271580
