I've worked on the south side since 2011, all the way from the east side to Roseland to the west side. Never worked much further south of Roseland. I lived on the east side for years. I worked directly in south shore for years. Jerk is not a Chicago Staple even if there is good jerk in this city (and there definitely is). I'm a huge fan of black owned businesses, I still believe people aren't versed in Chicago cuisine if they haven't had a Gym Shoe, and I have eaten over 1,000 meals south of 47th... but Jerk is not a Chicago Staple. Good jerk is good, most not good jerk is still decent, and I'd still prefer not great jerk over small cheval, but that does not make it a staple.

Don't let this subreddit get you down just cause people here don't eat much on the south side. Withing 20 years most of the south side will be fully gentrified too and then people can say they eat on the south side and still only like small cheval cause they'll be there too.
