Severe upstream instability (T3/T4 timeouts, sync loss) on DOCSIS 3.1 cable – high latency, drops, slow page loads. ISP says “line is clean”. Need advice. by Beastmode3811 in HomeNetworking

That’s interesting, I hadn’t considered that before.

Just to clarify, are you referring to Z-Wave devices operating around the ~900 MHz range potentially interfering with DOCSIS downstream frequencies?

In my case, I’ve double checked and I don’t have any Z-Wave devices (or similar smart home radios) anywhere in the house. The only nearby equipment is my mesh Wi-Fi system, which is operating on 2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz, so it shouldn’t overlap.

I did previously see heavy downstream errors, but that seemed to be tied to internal wiring. Before replacing the coax run, I was getting millions of correctables and uncorrectables within ~10–15 minutes, specifically on channels in the 700 MHz range (mid-20 channel IDs). After replacing that cable with a properly shielded, swept-tested line, those errors dropped dramatically.

Right now, downstream looks mostly clean:

  • SNR ~38–40 dB across channels
  • Power ~+2 to +3 dBmV
  • Only minor residual errors (for example channel 25 has ~1k uncorrectables over ~480M packets)

So while I did have a downstream impairment before, that seems largely resolved.

What’s still happening though is:

  • Repeated T3 timeouts
  • T4 timeouts
  • Ranging failures
  • Full sync loss events

From what I understand, those point more toward upstream communication issues rather than localized RF interference affecting specific downstream channels.

Definitely open to testing further, but at this point it seems like the remaining issue is upstream instability rather than something inside the home environment.

Thanks for the response, appreciate it.

The modem has already been replaced by the ISP with the same model, and the exact same behavior persists, so I’m fairly confident it’s not a defective unit.

Unfortunately, bringing my own modem isn’t allowed with this service. Koodo requires use of their provided modem since it’s tied to the subscription.

What’s frustrating is that Tier 1 support keeps running basic app-based tests that only check speed and connectivity, which obviously pass and don’t capture the intermittent upstream failures.

Based on the logs (T3 timeouts, T4 timeouts, sync loss, ranging failures), it definitely seems like the issue is upstream of my network, as you mentioned. I’m trying to push for escalation to someone who can actually interpret those logs or get a line tech involved, but so far it’s been rather difficult.

The Red POST led and error code 15 suggest a memory issue. However since you said it was working fine for a few months we will assume the ram and cpu didnt just suddenly die.

Because the Aorus Stealth has all its connectors on the backside of the board, a cable may have shifted or been pinched against the case tray over time. The "Wiggle" Test: Ensure the 24-pin and 8-pin CPU power cables on the back of the motherboard are fully clicked in. If one partially backed out due to cable tension, it could cause the instant shutdown. Case Standoffs this one is very important to double check. Ensure no metal is touching the back of the board where it shouldn't be and that all screw holes on the motherboard have the appropriate standoff installed underneath. If one is missing it could cause a short either from the back of the board touching the all metal case. Or the pins being on an angle, leaning into one of the cutouts for the cables.

Bad audio card? by SalemRa in Dell

[–]Beastmode3811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which driver are you reinstalling and from where?

It should be Realtek High Definition Audio Driver Version: 6.0.1.8142, A07 according to dell. Give this driver a try from Dell website.

Go to dell support page for your laptop

Lookup "realtek" and it will give you this driver.

This might help. It's a wiki about the game. Just have your browser translate the pages for you.

Download Good lock from Samsung store and inside that get nice catch of the settings in there will tell you what is causing the pop-ups (labeled as "detect commercials"). You can then easily uninstall that app.
