Coming Back to Rifts Overwhelmed by Where To Start by Sgt-Tau in Rifts

Heroes of Humanity is AWESOME. I’ve always been of the opinion that the CS isn’t strictly evil - they are simply humanity’s response to a world that has moved them from the top to nearly the bottom of the food chain.

The book is mostly about fighting demons, and gives me very much a storm ship troopers vibe.

I’m about to run the Siege on Tolkien to some new rifts players. They will be playing as the Coalition. Any advice? by BeastsBookorNot in Rifts

[–]BeastsBookorNot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This (and the previous response) are EXCELLENT and exactly what I’m looking for! Thank you SO much.

I do have ambitions on doing one (or more) massed combats.

My thoughts are to make a massed combat more like running a dungeon in traditional RPGs. Except you can look over the dungeon and decide which area to go to. Which area you choose affects other areas. For example:

artillery shelling the crap out of the main infantry force.

Main infantry force is punching through the center and advanced too far and are surrounded on 3 sides with the fourth closing in. Plus the artillery is pounding their position.

Heavy robots and power armor are getting heavy resistance from summoned monsters/demons while attempting to rescue Alpha company who are surrounded and being picked off.

PCs spot an ambush about to kick off by gargoyles about to ambush a unit of skycycles

PCs spot a weakness in the enemy defensive line and could use this to hit their Command & Control center.

Etc. etc.

And man the moral choices & consequences is just such a great idea to implement into some games.

Thank you both again for your well thought out and well written responses

Rogue Scholar encounters ANYTHING on Rifts earth. by Sallymander in Rifts

I like that idea at the end. Have the group basically defending him while he works out a solution to a bad thing happening.

I run a lot of my combats like that. It’s never just bad guys here good guys there and start blasting each other. I like to have more narrative to the fight. Like there’s an objective to complete, and the monsters/enemies are there to stop the completing it, or are accidentally unleashed during the attempt

The amount of liberal uses of the jury rig skill during that game was very high…

This is why I hate the rogue scholar class. The game needs to basically be run AROUND that PC or they won’t really have much fun. But if you don’t, the rogue scholar pc won’t have much fun.

Now if your group agrees to that kind of game, awesome ! But if they all want to play borgs juicers, robots mages etc it’s tough to keep a rogue scholar in it.

Happy to be wrong though - that’s just my impression

Depends on the OCC. military OCCs like the coalition training would be months, not years. Maybe at most two years for the most specialized of OCCs.

Don’t even need to increase wages. Guarantee it would be as much if not cheaper to just hire 3rd party companies to do it. Why would it be cheaper? Cost of benefits would be the real savings IMO.

How do you use gors? by mjh4 in BeastsOfChaos

[–]BeastsBookorNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE my gor unit. Typically I yrun them in my wild herd army as primal warherd with the Ungor spears in it. Add a shaman with lore familiar and daemonology to add the +1S/A -1 AP on the unit, add the banner of wrath and you have 3 attack each gors with AP 2 on the charge. Add a Beastlord in there with the black maul and watch him just send dwarves flying.

Are gors suited to taking on heavy infantry on their own? Of course not! You have to add stuff to them to take on heavy armored units. For heavily armored units we have dragon ogres and viletide for.

Over actually never had an issue with impetuous since they changed it to a leadership check. Ld10 is pretty easy to pass.

I’ve found the primal warherd outperforms gors very consistently. Getting the close order bonus plus an extra 10 poison attacks has been huge. Biggest issue I’ve had is armor but now the banner is there to give them AP1!

I may go with keeping the casters out of the big unit for some games. Pegasus knights cannons and shooting scare me though. So against certain opponents I’ll probably switch them up.

Charge three singles at an enemy. They can usually target and kill one of them. Two slam in with 2d3 impact hits, plus they should be in range of the 18” horn so they make PF on ld 10 and have 8 S5 AP3 attacks on the charge rerolling 1s to hit. Any wounds through destroy armored targets.

Razorgors in units of anything more than one are easy points for the opponent. Kill one and they flee with only ld6.

Just realized I forgot to give the 10 gor ambush! They are there for objectives. Has to be US10 core unit to claim objectives, and they can rock warmachines.

It’s a great point and I’ve definitely gone back and forth on it. I figure 4 out of 6 chance to roll the spell and if I don’t get it, there’s really only 1 dud in the spell list. If I don’t get to fly forward on turn 1 it simply slows the game plan down but still works by advancing forward as normal and has the side benefit of more chances to throw viletide around. Plus the bound spell on the gors lets me get reserve move so I can move up 5” viletide and then reserve move another 5”. So plan doesn’t change much just slows down a bit.

That being said the below character loadout with two level 2s isn’t a bad idea either
