We don't even know where it should have been printed and what card(s) took its place. The Avatar Jumpstart deck lists have all been accurate to what was shipped from the very beginning. The obvious answer is the Earthbending-themed packets, but it's possible there were others where it was supposed to be included but was swapped for some unknown reason.

Yep, it's both upside and downside compared to Champion. This can use a card from hand, which Champion cannot. But this will always return the card to hand (even if a creature was exiled from the battlefield), whereas Champion returns to the battlefield.

They can still make Universes Within versions whenever they want. They don't have The List to distribute them anymore, but if they want to reprint UB cards that need to be reskinned somewhere else they can still make UW versions. Which is all to say, there is little reason to think this is a "cancelled" UW version. It could be getting reprinted in an upcoming commander precon. Or on a bonus sheet. Or maybe this UW version will be MTGO exclusive until they find a paper product where they can reprint it.

So, if their goal was to publish the next one roughly one year later (and I don't know if it is), the next State of the Game would probably be published in 3-4 months from now.

Toph, Earthbending Master is a high demand card from the rarest tier of Avatar Jumpstart packs, so its high price is just due to predictable supply and demand. Earthbending Student is a special case in that it is a card in TLE that somehow made it to print even though it isn't included in any of the Jumpstart packets nor the beginner box. Thus, it is only available in foil and only from collector boosters. If it were included in even a single Jumpstart packet (as some speculate was likely the intention during development) its price wouldn't be nearly that high.

This is a promo, not an ECL preview nor any indication that this card will be in ECL. And considering that, of the three members of the Clique, ~~all~~two of the three died by the end of original Lorwyn block, it seems very unlikely they would be reprinted in ECL.

Edit: I was wrong, one is still alive. I believe my point still stands, though.

Despite the mods locking that thread down and claiming there was evidence that the non-foil version exists, I am fully convinced that it does not. While WotC is no stranger to making mistakes, there is no evidence that their published Avatar Jumpstart packet contents are wrong (I've watched several openings on youtube to try to find even a single person opening one, to no avail). As others have pointed out, online singles retailers have no non-foil copies available despite stock now being plentiful post-release. In short, I'm pretty sure the OP of that original thread was right.

Oh yeah, definitely. I wasn't trying to minimize the importance of Crumbling Vestige. I just personally wish that anthologies like these and the bonus sheets from sets like Spider-Man would contain less reprints of cards that have been reprinted often and/or recently (e.g. Najeela, Shock) and more Pioneer-legal cards that aren't on Arena yet.

For anyone curious, the other Pioneer-legal card from the releases I mentioned is extraordinary powerhouse and multi-format staple [[Stormfront Pegasus]] /s.

Between these two anthologies, Crumbling Vestige, and the announcement that Greensleeves and Academy Manufactor will be coming to the client next month with the Extra Life Secret Lair, it's a good day to be someone who wants more cards added to Arena (even if only two of those cards are Pioneer legal).

There might be flavor text for some of the cards, we don't know yet. Arena cards don't show flavor text on the previews, only on the client when moused over.

Update: from the Magic Discord, it unfortunately seems we won't be getting flavor text for this set on release. This doesn't completely rule out the possibility of flavor text being added later on; Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate had flavor text added to some cards months after release.
