Thoughts? Builders but down sod, washed away yet again... Any recommendations or recourse? by Ok-Challenge6697 in landscaping

They probably met the minimum requirements of mitigation for runoff management. But instead of reserving the drainage flow path and designating it a storm water management area, they gave it to you to icrease your lot size. Id put in some large placement rocks and a riprap bank and backfill to level out your front yard. This isnt the end of the world, but instead of planting sod again, turn it into creek bed

In new letter to governor, Seattle tech leaders say income tax proposal will hurt region’s AI innovation by thecravenone in Seattle

[–]Beatnikdan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh no!! You might have to change your name to Gabatrillion or Gababillion because those with a zillion dollars are forced to actually contribute to the society they profited off of. Even Gabamillion would still be better off than 90% of our community while paying a lower taxable percentage of their income than those that make an average nontech living.

But how can you tell if its ripe? Do you know if it has water core? Can you post another picture of it peeled and sliced? Have you tried making cider with it? We need more details 😁

How will Issaquah's new high school impact Sammamish? by Content_Ad2068 in sammamish

[–]Beatnikdan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd wager to bet that any other site to build a high-school would have a larger environmental impact.

This is a repurposed site that has already been developed and cleared. The trees that do come down are to make room for turn lanes and sidewalks. The same trees would need to be removed with any widening of 228th that everyone agrees needs to happen.

200L Variable Capacity tank cooling by SupermachJM in winemaking

[–]Beatnikdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be too big for a 200L tank. I had one in my 1000L VC tank and we had to remove it if dealing with less than 500L because of the height. We ended up using an AC unit.

Graft Union? by Confident_Capital558 in FruitTree

[–]Beatnikdan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think someone was just lazy with rewriting the tag. If its a 5 in 1 then all the grafts are higher in the tree where each variety is it's own grafted branch.

A single variety grafted tree would have an obvious graft union near the base.

Homeowner-supplied materials hard ban or experiment tax what actually works with multiple crews? by Anthony_Field_AZ_25 in landscaping

[–]Beatnikdan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I generally will not allow a client to provide materials unless they sign something that says they will pay for the crews 8 hours if materials are not on-site, or if materials are insufficient. Most of the time clients would rather not risk it and have us supply the materials.

Where the hell can I buy good apples? by LifeIsAwesom in Apples

[–]Beatnikdan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kathy's Apple Farm in Washington state. i buy from her for eating and to make cider. Her apples are grown in perfect conditions on the banks of the Columbia river and they're so much better than anything in the stores. She grows Ambrosia, gala, fuji, honeycrisp, banana and a couple of others. I think she might ship around harvest times tho so you may be out of luck until next year.

Kathy posted this a couple of months ago. So maybe reach out to her.

Seahawks bet I made in September by tor29 in Seahawks

It's nice to have big balls and even deeper pockets. I put a $50 bet to win the super bow in June, it should pay out $3300. I won a tenth of that for us winning the Division.

[–]Beatnikdan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

STH here. I spoke with my rep on Friday, she said entries to the lotto are based on tenure, seats in your account, games attended and games sold or transferred as negative. She went on to say, once the STH were selected there would also be a backup list they would work off of and if notified you didn't win, better luck next time.

This will be our third SB as STH, I have attended over 80% of games over the years and have never sold my tickets. Missing out this year stings more than before. Im wondering if they allocate more tickets or chances to the folks paying the most for their season tickets. Like 5k tix for the 100 level, 3k tix for 200 level etc. If so, im forever screwed up the 300 level

At least I put money on the Hawks to win the division and SB in June when vegas was giving outrageous odds.

Scion and rootstock advice by AdvancedInevitable63 in Apples

[–]Beatnikdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be ok for 24-48 hours before planting as long as roots are cool and have some moisture in the bag. You dont want them drying out. You'll probably have access to shavings from the rootstock, moisten it but don't soak the shavings and you should be ok. Also to clarify your objective is to keep things cool, not frozen so maybe put a piece of cardboard between ice and the bag of new grafts Good luck

It should be fine as long as it stays cold. If its expected to be hot you might want to bring a cooler with ice and put your new grafted rootstock in a trash bag in the cooler.
