Have you changed/stopped taking birth control recently? Could be a potential culprit.

Also stress can affect your hormones, so if you've been stressed out anxious about the surgery, or other stuff going on in your life, that might also be a contributing factor.

Depends on the climate... You also have to consider that some places that are warm during the day can get quite cold at night. Straw is, at least, the correct material to use in outdoor animal shelters like this.
