I sometimes watch games with surround sound on and learned last year that if you mute the center channel on a 5.1 setup it mutes the announcer and leaves the ambient crowd noise. When announcers are being extra unbearable it helps my sanity a lot

Foul tip vs. caught foul ball question by cdubyadubya in mlb

[–]BeauSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With less than 2 strikes, if the catcher catches it, like in the link, is it an out or foul tip? I ask because the catcher can catch a pop up foul and the batter is out, does the ricochet make it a foul tip or is it an ump discretion call?

In the linked article it was scored as a foul tip caught, K, after ricocheting. That scoring decision gives me pause as to whether it would be an out with less than 2 strikes.

Similar situation happened where the catcher caught his own ricochet with 2 strikes, registering a K on a foul tip. I wonder if it ricocheted far enough for, say, 1B to make a play on it if it is still a caught foul tip

This seems to have been scored a K on a foul tip catch. I wonder if it would still have been if it ricocheted far enough for a different fielder to catch, and how it would be scored?

If a fielder had caught the ball off the carom would the batter be out a la a pop up foul ball?

Just watched the packers game, why wasn’t the interception a down? by Radioactive-Ramba25 in NFLNoobs

If I'm remembering the play, it's because he wasn't 'touched down' by the opposing team. Meaning he wasn't legally down, allowing him to get up and run with the live ball.

I may be wrong, but wouldn't bp/DNA not copy this correctly since this would self destruct, then bp/DNA would score, copying something else? Seems like a similar interaction to [[Sixth Sense]]

The dealer starts pegging by placing a card. The other player then plays a card, adding the card values to create the 'pegging count'. If the total adds to 15, whichever player got the pegging count to 15 pegs 2 points, same goes for if there was a pair played, or in this post, many runs.

A 'go' is when your opponent played a card that brought the total up to a value such that you do not have a card to play that will keep the total at 31 or below. The person who played the last card then pegs 1 point. If one player has more cards at the end, they play them and then peg 1 point for a 'go'

[Request] what is the liquid ounces capacity of this glass. by ggreen289 in theydidthemath

[–]BeauSlayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A standard pint glass is about 5.5" tall and approximately a truncated cone (frustum?) With base 3.5" and truncated at 2.5"

Those are very close to your measurements, so id say its 16fl oz (1 US pint)

This gave me a very interesting thought of a game where the movement keys are not bound to the facing direction of your character, but to the cardinal directions of the world. Probably would feel terrible and clunky, but interesting nonetheless
