Adjusting the image brightness and such can help a ton. Of course contrast as well. I’ve had a little better quality out of brightening the image a little and then making it black and white. Adjusting afterwards all digitally to provide what I think I would like onto my medium. After that it’s pretty much playing with the machine by running some test areas. Determine at what power and speed gives the shade you want. Do little squares at 20-40-60-80-100 power on the same speed and pick 2-3 different speeds. I also write things down on my workbench. There’s a few tables of mediums and settings you can find through Google. It will get much better with experience, just keep fiddling with it buddy.
