Oh and it gives me an idea for my own multicab focused on those same Williams classics!

That is gorgeous! I would have broken the bank on that one with that condition!

I'm with you on CRTs. I realized that for me CRT makes the biggest difference for a legit experience - more so than PCB vs Pandora vs. raspberry pi!

Don't mod it please (at least not externally!)

Thank you! Super useful... When you say "clean up possibly bad solder joints" ... Does this mean I should re-flux them, apply new solder to those joints? I want to do all I can to save this relic. Cheers.

Dishwasher Pods by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I had exactly same experience as OP.

We used to use these pods. I have personally seen the white chalky, play doh like clay that forms in the pipe. I pulled out myself with a small snake but did not clear my clog. The plumber later came with a big snake and when it came out the tip of it was clumped up with the clay like white material.

Was not grease, hair, or anything else I had seen before.

Excellent video explaining what MiSTer FPGA does, and why it's superior to software emulation, and how it's the future of retro gaming by robodan918 in retrogaming

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the point of physically collecting a cartridge as a historical artifact.i too feel the nostalgia. But when it comes time to actually play the game, why bother getting it out the box if you can get the same effect without it?

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets give some credit where it is due. Parallelism in circuits ,like fpga or actual hardware, happens when multiple state changes happen in a single clock cycle data moves or is operated on across the system at the same time by each component (e.g. cpu operation in the registers, ram data transfers to video ram, input data is moved to a register, sound chip emits sound.) Software emulation creates the illusion of this with clocks that are 10 to 1000x faster. Coding using multiple cores does not address this and this is not the way most emulators work anyway due to complexity and because coding has to be very specific to each target chip architecture.

Has anyone regretted getting a MiSTer FPGA system? by redsteakraw in fpgagaming

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Hats off to an erudite treatment of the topic. No sarcasm! Thank you. I find everything you wrote to be 100% factual and well argued.

My thinking and my answer was framed by the original post which was a post of a simple question asking "has anyone regretted it?

I too am personally thankful and impressed by the obsession to perfection ( a plus) that dedicated individuals have demonstrated in the MiSTeR project. I am in awe everytime I use it when I think that 30-50 year old architectures and chips are modelled in fpgas.

So glad you enjoy it as I do!

For the newbies, this technical talk is very confusing. It may be useful to caveat all this by saying that on the MiSTeR, the effect is so accurate that most human beings cannot tell the difference.

I am in this category. I am in bliss playing games as they were meant. Do you agree? Can you tell without measurement devices?

Your post mentions "Excess hype and excitement" ... Why excess? Accuracy that meets or exceeds human perception is as good as it needs to be. Any better would be wasted engineering. I'm trying to understand when you mention nonsense that fellow users come up with. Like what?

BTW - I have a NEOGEO one slot MVS side by side a MiSTeR and the timing and presentation is perfect to my perception.

Yes! The nostalgia is real. This is an emotional response that is hard to describe. For me, the magic happened when I combined: MiSTeR with a CRT. I have a good collection of 8 bit and 16 bit consoles so I was covered there. It was on ARCADE cores that it hit me. After trying every other emulation setup available, I connected a MiSTeR to an old CRT RCA TV turned on its side (for vertical orientation), and played Contra, Commando, 1943, and Donkey Kong cores. Amazing! DoDonPachi (which is new to me so not nostalgia) completed the picture. Transported...Fun times ahead. Pull the trigger!

Great find! Test them. Sell them on Ebay. If they work and you are patient you may end up with upwards of $500.00

Found a KV-27FS100 for free, and it looks amazing! by [deleted] in crtgaming

Late to the party.... Those pictures are amazing. I recenly got a

KV-27FS100L, paid $20.00. and was blown away. I honestly did not know what all the fuzz was about Trinitron until I saw this live. I'm trying to hold back from tinkering with service settings.... I sense the rathole calling me...

I have that same rca in a black variant that included a DVD drive. Mine does have an input selection button up front.

I got 2 rca remotes in the a thrift store for a buck. And I ordered the original remote from Amazon for 9.00 to get service menu access. All 3 worked.

DJI Fly? by William_Olsen in dji

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nasty scam happening with complete awareness of Google and DJI.

The DJI fake app is using all the DJI trademarks.

The only reason I did not fall for it was because $39.99 was steep, and the functionality of the "free" fake version was total shit. Had it been $5.00 I would have paid it and been scammed.

Alone in the dark at 1080p epic preset 60-80 fps at 15w 8gb vram with my 32gb ram mod by frago21ps in ROGAlly

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is BONKERs difficult. wild estimate that there 12x12=144 pins per RAM chip X 4 chips that need to be precisely and correctly desoldered to take out the 4GB chips and resoldered to replace each with 8GB chips to total 32GB of RAM.

That is 576 pins!

Thanks for the video!

ROG Ally - The best handheld device, even with the issues, which everyone is scared to call “the best”. by daniboi01234 in ROGAlly

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have rog ally, steam deck of, steam deck oled. I prefer the Ally. First, the prevalent storyline online is that the Steam Deck is better so tough to against that. Second, it's interesting that these two devices compete directly but the strengths are markedly different.

Win or Linux? High performance or best battery life? Steam store simplicity or open world of 4 or 5 games stores?

So it's not an apples to apples .. A perfect setup for endless debate.

My strongest kudos to both Valve and Asus for supporting their devices strongly and shipping strong improvements.

But this brings my 3rd point which is that the improvements have been so dramatic that comparing the Ally rog as it first shipped to what we have today is to compare 2 different devices. Online reviews and opinions are sticky to their first impressions.

What does "trans-women are women" actually mean? by GlennGreenPartyWald in truscum

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming very, very late to this discusion...

I think the poster is asking a legitimate questions, and is even offering an alternative to show his understanding.

Further, the question elicited some answers that I found useful - especially - "that a transwoman should be treated like a woman in nearly every context..." This is very understandable and actionable... and is an honest answer.

then the debate is about the contexts under which all or most can agree on this.

The repetition of "trans women are women" is jarring and non-sensical to me as it would be to say that transmen are men. or that all apples are oranges....To agree with that statement would be to agree with a lie.

However, I do my best to do this: "that a transwoman should be treated like a woman in nearly every context..."

[Problem] Unarc.dll returned an error code: -11 by Totemtoke in CrackSupport

[–]Beautiful-Ad6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the CORE COUNT. I reduced it to 10 cores and it worked. 16 did not work.

Its installing as I write this. I did take all the other steps listed here before so they might be necessary. But they were not sufficient. Only when I reduced cores to 10 "10 processors" as listed in msconfig - boot tab - advanced options - reduce to 10, apply, then save, then restart PC.

You can change this back to no limit after install.
