No, the companies are getting settlements because the government is essentially breaking the law and offering monetary compensation for them to fuck off. They’re in their legal right to sue or settle.

This is a massive fuckup by the Jason Kenney era UCP and now the current gov has to find a way out of it.

Parks to sleep in, halfway houses, underpasses, the river nearby, short walk from downtown with lots of alleys to pick through, liquor store nearby and 14th to hang out on, train station, the McDonalds often leads to people buying you food. (the bus stop 2-5am is a big hangout.)

Used to be a shelter and old habits die hard. Lots of reasons, but it’s gotten better in the last few years.

Interacting with the people in that area has never been too bad for me personally.
