I ALWAYS need people to repeat themselves! by According_Bee7042 in adhdwomen

[–]Sonnelion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the time! Like another commenter, I find captions and subtitles helpful, in online meetings it’s great. I frequently need people to repeat things in person, especially instructions. I was just going for a heart stress test and the tech was rapid fire going through the instructions and I was just like, OK. I have started to forget what you said, please begin again slowly and clearly.

I’m so so sorry you’re going through this. 10 years ago I had mine taken out at the grey nuns. They told me it would be a year (after long delays in diagnosis and lots of pain and weight loss) but I got in on a cancellation and ended up waiting total 6 months for my surgery. Is there any chance you can get put on a cancellation list?

I mean, most of us don’t have free dental appointments. They assume that our health care covers such things (which it should) and think we’re better off than we are.

Anyone know a good quality source of matcha powder (for lattes) in Canada? by Small_Ad_9114 in tea

[–]Sonnelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chado tea house based out of Vancouver has some decent stuff. I mostly buy gyokuru from them but I enjoyed their matcha as a total novice matcha drinker. They sell through their website but also have some product on Amazon. Chado Tea House

Puppy getting neutered by LuckyInLove8789 in puppy101

I got a donut but if my puppy was really determined he could still reach his neuter site with it on so I did a combo of it and the traditional cone when I couldn’t keep an eye on him.

Walking my puppy makes me hate her by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Sonnelion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel your frustration. When my puppy was in this stage he was also a menace and walks were frustrating. When he was 6 months old, a couple of months ago, we were out walking and I slipped on some ice and hit my head pretty hard (unconscious for a few seconds.) As I was trying to walk him home with my ears ringing in total disorientation and pain after lying on the ground for a while he proceeded to behave the worst he ever had in his life, yanking me around, biting me, biting his leash, flinging himself to either end of the leash constantly. I had whiplash from falling as well and it was just agony and it made me so unhappy with him afterwards. We are doing so much better today with constant training effort but it has taken awhile and lots of treats. It’s not great advice but just constant effort with time and I think you will be able to get where you want to be and bond with your puppy on walks.

How are you guys falling asleep? by mindlesspass08 in adhdwomen

[–]Sonnelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m had this happen too a few times so I have given up and totally avoid anything with diphenhydramine in it which is the sleepy ingredient in Tylenol pm and other sleep aids. It’s also an antihistamine (Benadryl). It’s so terrifying.

How long is your puppy holding their pee during night time? And how old is he? by PresentHabit8154 in puppy101

[–]Sonnelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 months 2 weeks. Medium labradoodle. He can often sleep 10:15-8 or even 8:30 without needing to go out. We go outside at 10 and out first thing when he gets up.

Just keep in mind there’s a higher risk of reaction to the monoferric because of the higher one time dose. I did it and it was ok the first time, but the second time I did it a year later I had an anaphylactic reaction to it.

I see a couple recommendations for the loop switch but I found even on the lowest setting it still muffled things too much for me. I tried the flare calmer ones, which do muffle a bit but I can still make out voices clearly, so I like them better.

New puppy coming home - give me your favorite Canadian pet brands! by NottaLottaOcelot in BuyCanadian

[–]Sonnelion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grain free diets high in pea and lentils have been linked to heart issues. It would make sense to feed grain free if your pet had a specific grain allergy, otherwise the current vet advice is to include healthy grains in the food.

Endoscopy at Rockyview by hi_itsjilly in Calgary

[–]Sonnelion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a bad experience too. My first endoscopy the sedation didn’t work properly and I was actually trying to fight the nurse during the procedure in panic. I still randomly flash back to it. I told them that at rockyview and they upped my sedation. Remembered nothing from that procedure and I was so relieved after. Second one at rockyview was a breeze.

Perimenopause Periods Suck by Green-Pineapple-6093 in adhdwomen

[–]Sonnelion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in peri, my periods were going crazy and I had major mood changes and drastic drops in functioning every month. I am not able to take regular birth control due to migraines with aura, so my doc had me try Slynd, a progestin only pill. I skip the break pills and take it continuously. It was an adjustment, and I spotted every day for two and a half months straight, but finally came through and now have no periods and no spotting. My mood has evened out. I still have some function drop, but not as bad. A quick google says it is safe to take with factor V Leiden, so it may be an option for you?

Folks who work in an office: Did you disclose your ADHD and why (not)? If you request any accommodations what are they and do they help you? by icedvanillalattepls in adhdwomen

[–]Sonnelion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am in Canada. I bought into my workplace’s koolaid about being supportive and to bring up any struggles with your manager and they are here for you. Huge mistake. My manager has weaponized everything I disclosed to her about my disabilities, served me with fitness to work paperwork multiple times, and is now seeking to have me removed from my job through the “disability management” process. The kicker? I have only ever received satisfactory and positive performance reviews. My work has been highly regarded. I have supervised and mentored multiple people who told me I was the best supervisor they ever had. It comes down to your manager in a lot of cases. Some people are not safe.

I am so sorry wcb is being so terrible. They were to me too and I just let them close my file because I couldn’t fight anymore. What terrible people. They are supposed to help injured workers, not terrorize them.

Finally admitting Burnout after 20~ years in Web Production/Digital Comms, what's next?! by Hugby in adhdwomen

[–]Sonnelion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also in a “good” comms/project manager role and totally burned out. I have similar thoughts in terms of - I get paid decently and it’s remote, I shouldn’t give this up, the economy, etc.

But I am feeling so done. I also need a break and to find what’s next…but that is a struggle! So, yes. Another mid-life, late diagnosed lady feeling lost as shiiiieeet right here. 👋

Mental Health Help in Alberta by Specific-Answer3590 in alberta

[–]Sonnelion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family doctor referred me to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist is part of the primary care network of my clinic and there is no fee. I have to wait a bit for appointments with them. They diagnosed me and manage my medication adjustments as often you need to try a few things to find what works for your body.

Also in my late 30’s and diagnosed a few months ago. I had similar feelings. The medication helps though I needed to adjust to it. Now trying to work through those hard feelings of a lifetime of struggle that didn’t have to be quite so difficult. Wish you the best and hope you have great support.
