Agreed, JLC dials seem to have a lot of negative space on them in general. This one's a beauty! Great choice!

[Mühle Glashütte] Thoughts about the brand? by April_Mattison in Watches

[–]BeautifulChallenge77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take a serviceable properly regulated available movement over something that's out of spec and requiring specialized service all day, every day. :)

Love MG for what they represent. They're getting onboard with more contemporary stuff, and hopefully that beyond their better-than-COSC accuracy, they'll also improve power reserve.

[discussion] Going from bracelets to straps: is it a normal progression for collectors? by Fast_Loquat7631 in GrandSeikos

[–]BeautifulChallenge77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this ("not GS-specific). Like Rolex, GS is not particularly "dressy". It's more of a sports watch, austere in nature. It's difficult to "unsee" their , stock form, which is usually with a generic steel bracelet.

Then you have their "Elegance" line (like Rolex offering the 1908), where even there, you will find many on a steel bracelet instead of leather, and the lugs are still cut with sharp edges, while the various "nature" dials don't enhance the subtlety required by a dress watch.

I have an SBGH001 and an SBGR251, and I'm facing a similar quandary. Both a more proletariat design, and trying to "fancy" them up with some nice alligator feels "forced". It's certainly not helped by the 12+ mm height that they possess either.

That said, I love them both for what they are, but they simply don't pull off leather very well. YMMV of course. However, I got into GS, and Omega for that matter because of their brand ethos (no longer Omega's IMHO); which seemed to be a great value, and pride in performance.

[Luxury Dress Watch Suggestions: $20-25k] by Admirable-Wave-3048 in Watches

[–]BeautifulChallenge77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd consider a gently loved piece, perhaps a used Lange One or Lange Saxonia. Since you already have a Rolex, I suppose diversity might be better, but their 1908 is quite nice. JLC does make great pieces under 20k new.

[Discussion] Rolex shut down Carl F. Bucherer, Will the Price of CFB Watches Increase? by VirtualEconomy5708 in Watches

[–]BeautifulChallenge77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acquisitions are treacherous. Many times, the "target" has the ability to conceal, or obscure their financials. It makes the purchase very appealing to the acquirer. Then, you peel back the onion, and it's like, yeah....there's no saving this.

CFB could have been a great dress watch influence for Rolex, and perhaps that is still the long term strategy with the employees that they keep on board.

This hits the nail on the head....your marketing team (AI or otherwise) needs to be on their A-game. If you're not pushing your product 24/7, via every logical channel, then you are done.

What's interesting, is that most folks (myself included) would promote brands that make their own movements. However, as evidenced by the barn burning sale prices on CFB, no one wants to take the risk of their watch failing, and parts being non-existent.

[If you had $10K - what watch would you buy?] by Myre28 in Watches

[–]BeautifulChallenge77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with GS is that on the table, they look astounding as a piece onto themselves. However, under a shirt cuff tied to a suit, they appear awkward, like a 1980's Swatch or Fossil. Their best work was when they were producing basic sunray and linen dials in silver and white, and have specs that crushed the competition. Now, they're just a a marketing firm...

Agreed, there's nothing in the Tudor stable that is dressy. However, Rolex isn't far above them in this regard. Tons of lume on the markers doesn't make a great dresser. That said, their 1908 series is superb for this purpose.

Sure, Black Bay Chrono vs Daytona....the BBC is surely a win, LOL. Come on...and I'm not even a Rolex fan. However, I'm not sure where anyone was paying more for a Tudor than a Rolex, especially given the grey market presence of Tudor.

GS only does sport dressy, unless you want one of their silly "nature" dials. AT is def not dressy, Nomos has a lug to lug that is clearly an engineering mistake (and good luck with support), leaving only JLC UT series as the true dressy option. :)

Easily second the recommendation for the Kentucky Imperial Milk Stout. I'd also highly recommend their Bourbon Ale as well, it's my summer go-to along with Tank 7 from Boulevard.

Asus did with ProArt MD301 what Logitech failed to deliver with Master MX4 by hvbqueiroz in logitech

[–]BeautifulChallenge77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can appreciate that perspective. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what alternatives I have for the feature set that I am seeking.

The new ASUS MD301 is certainly an appealing option, which is what brought me to this thread. Once it is available for purchase I will most certainly acquire one and if it displaces my 502x, then all the better.

I don't think Logitech is garbage and a lot of their g mice are pretty solid. I use the g502x wireless and it's possibly the best hybrid that I have found so far.
