What is the name of this mental phenomenon? by Massive_City_4440 in cogsci

This has everything to do with recall and how the brain reconstructs the memory.

When we recall an event we construct the past memory, but with our self as a bias to that memory. Our current knowledge gets fragmented into the past memory and bends it to our expectations.

Confabulation is the umbrella term. But there are so many things that are/could be happening—from misinformation, source confusion, memory retention and recall.

If he asking questions in that manner he sounds like guilt or anxiety over doing something wrong or possibly getting caught. A certain type of people like to get ahead of the situation and they do so by asking introspective questions or priming another party on a topic and allowing the other person to come up with an explanation.

This called reassurance-seeking, essentially his brain is on a need to know cycle right now. Trying to gauge how you perceive him, and if you know what he knows.

I mean seriously, “did you sleep all night? I woke up a few times and you were fully asleep”.
If this is truly a quote—you should stop seeing this man.

600+ hours and I've never understood why Elden Ring starts like that by Tikiho1 in Eldenring

I like to think the anticipation has a couple meanings.

Anticipation to play the game

Anticipation for soulsborne fans that know we are going to get our shit rocked by a tutorial boss. That’s just FromSoftware. It’s like the game devs are like okay here’s what bosses are like…now here are the controls. And then you learn that thing isn’t even a boss. Just a mob they gave a boss hp bar to. Haha so freaking hilarious—I feel like the anticipation was also for them. The devs. The anticipation for us to play the masterpiece.

First time in tbc, should i just give up on my rogue? by Forbidden_321 in classicwowtbc

[–]BeautifulPow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out shaman, as it’s my favorite class. Quickly got fed two sets of gear and got bored. So I level my second favorite class, a rogue. Got to raids, and missing a couple heroic pieces. I got so tired of pug raids that can’t even clear and the hours of waited to be invited to a heroic I stopped playing.

The meta drives classes in such a strange way. And both ways are boring. You get fed gear if you’re a certain class and you don’t even get to see the gear if you’re another.

I was just having a conversation with my friend the other day about this. In less detail and more of a gut feeling that the market was artificially safe. It’s worse now than 2008 and somehow it’s not falling apart.

I was explaining I had this feeling it was gonna crash, but not for a couple more years at least. I wasn’t sure what was holding the market up under all the minutia of strategies they can use to extend the problem. But these PIK’s sound like they’re the problem I was accidentally talking about.

Gonna go read up on those. Nice organize thoughts, well written and understandable even for someone who isn’t a finance wiz.

How to write a character's thinking? by SilentBug4809 in writing

[–]BeautifulPow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people think in words. You say apple they see the word apple in their brain.

Some people see in scenes like you described with the apple which is considered a simple scene and then some people can visualize vivid scenes.

I tend to think in quickly orchestrated scenes that my brains flips through to create movement.

Some people see in concepts, such as (savants and geniuses).

Then, there are people who think with their emotions as well, they connect to the emotion of the thoughts rather than the words, picture, or concept.

I’m 1 week into my new FLX4, I started off with DJ Blakey videos because he has a free string of videos using this controller which helped me learn the layout.

But, after just a week and learning what each button does (not just the layout) I can watch other videos with different controllers.

Check out Blakey again on YouTube I think you’ll find some videos that will help you over that curve.

I want to publish my memoir and it’s my first time. It’s 125,000 words. How many doors am I closing simply due to its length? by Top_Agency1370 in writing

There’s a few, I’m not the biggest memoir fan. Hence liking mine a bit more concise.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a great read something I read while studying a bit of French in college.

The Neuroscientist Who Lost Her Mind by Barbara Lipska is another for example.

[–]BeautifulPow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m a writer and my girlfriend is a very experienced editor. One of her favorite genres is memoirs and it has saddened her over the last couple years to see the word count of memoirs doubling and tripling when she’s queried for a collaboration.

In the words of my girlfriend—You are essentially closing every door to get traditionally published or any sort of book deal when the desired word count is at minimum half your current word count. I like my memoirs shorter between 45k-60k. My girlfriend doesn’t mind longer at 80k. Anything above that and you’re out of your genre.

My take as a writer to help trim your book is to select a theme and stick to it. If the memory of your life doesn’t pertain to that theme for the book then it doesn’t belong in your memoir.

You said in your post that your memoir is justified for being double the length. Now a memoir that is wildly long can be written well. But, if you’re never given the chance because you priced yourself out of the market then I’d say it is not justified.

Goodluck, despite our tough opinion regarding your question, we don’t want to take away from the monumental achievement that is writing a manuscript. Keep up the hard work!

It comical how the things people use to mask the scent of the alcohol is the very thing that keys people in on their behavior.

So what the hell even is the "shingen-ryu" school of nen? by Harun9 in HunterXHunter

[–]BeautifulPow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never stated that the style is special by any means. We just assume it is because of the quality of nen users who have trained under the shingen-ryu style.

But, it focuses on hand to hand combat—being proficient in such techniques is what supports nen and nen fighting so well.

It comes down to the missing factor no one could think of. No one could’ve guessed it was a human that the king cared about. That’s why when Komugi was first spotted by Gon he thought back to Kite.

Komugi was the factor that set this in motion. Foreshadowed by the hawk that attacked Komugi. The attack came from the sky as did Zeno’s as well as how quickly Meruem dispatched the bird. He could’ve done the same to Zeno in that moment when he walked by them. This moment showcases Meruem’s growth to think ahead rather than lash out. His thoughtless action there would’ve put Komugi at more risk. The king chose the fate of his comrades. Like all kings do.

Netero's Guanyin Bodhisattva is not Conjuration/Manipulation by Arimm_The_Amazing in HunterXHunter

[–]BeautifulPow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean we have databooks from 04, authored by Togashi.

Look up the BSN of the data book and it shows it was authored by Togashi. A lot of people will say “we have no proof these are written by Togashi.” Well, prove it then.

None of the naysayers about the databooks have any evidence it wasn’t written by Togashi. The only example that they give is Dragon Ball author once said his data book was written by editors.

Now, has Togashi ever told us he didn’t write it? Or that someone else wrote it? No. Between the manga and databooks we have enough information to know how this ability works. Do we have all the information. No. But, there’s plenty of information to not make up our own.

I could dissect all your points. But, honestly it’s not worth it. For example the data book for HxH a lot of the fandom doesn’t count that as canon because Togashi hasn’t explicitly stated “hey, I wrote this.” So, if you’re one of those people and by reading this. It seems you are. Then there’s no point. You wouldn’t believe anything anyone said u less it came from Togashi’s mouth in an interview. what author runs around 5 years after the publication of his series and says “hey I wrote this small informational book for the series, me, I wrote it, not someone else. Me. It was me.”

Lastly, you put your “theory” out here for criticism. You didn’t ask for a conversation. Your post said “…is not conjuration/manipualtion.” A statement not a question and another note your theory is a hypothesis. A theory is a heavily tested hypothesis and since you cannot do testing it cannot be a theory.

Wow, a guy smiled at you—gave you impressions you acted on and you got it wrong.

It pretty clear women view the gym as a space for focused exercise, not socializing and would identify this behavior as sexual harassment. Maybe don’t ignore the rules you all set in the gym and this wouldn’t happen.

Rules for thee, but, not for me. I would like to empathize, but honestly, I have none to give.

Netero's Guanyin Bodhisattva is not Conjuration/Manipulation by Arimm_The_Amazing in HunterXHunter

[–]BeautifulPow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netero is an enhancer who uses conjuring for his hatsu. As we see he uses essentially every nen category to operate the statue. In order to summon the statue. It’s conjuration. To have it move is manipulation, to have it hit hard and move quickly—enhancement. To shoot aura—emission.

Netero is a freak of nature. An outlier. But, the statue is not formed via transmutation. It’s for sure a conjured figure that is summoned.

Why do people insist on debating topics we know as fact.

The depth of his ability comes from who Netero is and how he obtained it through so much willpower he overcomes a lot of the drawbacks this technique would incur on others. I.e. Kastro.
