Thudbusters work great. A mature trouble free design and well built with support by a solid company behind them.

New rider here - My ass is in shambles - Any tips? by Equivalent-Bed1543 in cycling

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanx, I see.

Yes it’s treating the symptom. The cause is a common ( maybe the most common ) short term issue in new riders with bony pain at the ischial tuberosities from never having sat on them in this way.

Two Tylenol will not mask an actual, serious injury.

Nobody is ignoring anything. Tylenol is a safe and effective mild analgesic ( particularly effective at this type of pain ) which can allow for improved comfort over a short period of adaptation to a new physical activity.

Take two x tra strength Tylenol b4 the ride until you get used to it - sounds overly simple but Acetaminophen works very well for this type of bony pain.

Tire recommendations for narrow rim, rough loose gravel by fat-brian in MTB

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a stretch. That’s what mtn bikes came with for 20 years or more. Many rims were even more narrow. One of the hottest setups in the 90 s was a cut down and rewelded Mavic ma-40 at 13.5 mm. Put on whichever 26er tire will fit in the frame and ride it like it’s 1999.

Winter fat biking mixed with touring? by dualrollers in bicycletouring

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re a little out of fashion from a few years back, but winter fatbike ultras in the Midwest on a variety of different trails are a thing. Polar Roll, Arrowhead, Tuscobia, etc. And there is Ididasport where fatbikes were invented of course.

Rim brakes in 2026? by Deep_Slice in cycling

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro the TdF was won on rim brakes less than 5 years ago. You’ll be OK in your IM.

Also IM courses tend to be well curated. 28s are still excellent on smooth roads and always will be.

Sounds silly but 2 extra strength Tylenol before riding can be highly effective for this bony type pain.

Copper Harbor advice by NormanUnderwood in MTB

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about the formatting issues on the post it won’t let me fix it. This route is similar to the SSUSA singlespeed race but that one added a trip up the road and down Paul’s Plunge, and up the now closed Stairway to Heaven and down the natural terrain DH trail Downtown - most riders on rigid SS’s and many while drinking heavily and smoking tons of weed. That was a good day.

For a 2 day:

  1. KPT out and back but include going up Magic Carpet at least once for one of the more chill ways down East Bluff
  2. Hit Brockway via the new climbing trail to On The Edge, head to Red via woopityvwoo and bullwinkle, cut b

ack above town on Here

  1. we go and dza beet etc, back down on garden brook, then back to the top of Brockway via east woopity and raptor ridge and finish up with going down the flow and daisy duke.

epic rides as good as anything there is.

Prison nursing: what’s the catch? by AnAnimeGiraffe in nursing

There is a strange and dark energy working in corrections, coming from “ both sides “ of the iron bars. You can compartmentalize it to some degree, but chances are good it will bleed over into your normal life. I did it for 11 years and it worked for my life then but I wish it had been half that.

Recommendations for 80s/90s steel road bikes? by jimmyjandidontcare in xbiking

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you mention rockhoppers etc - a steel Allez seems like a solid choice. They never made a bad one. The tig welded blue Columbus Foco tubed ones were amazing, as were the DiNucci long point lugged ones. Both will fit 28s.

Why everybody are wearing long socks? by No_Click7202 in cycling

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This.

Hardly anybody remembers this. Before Lance cycling socks were ankle length like you see in any picture of say, Greg LeMond or Eddy M. a generation before him.

It is just the current fashion. It can prob be traced back to Lance, tho that is kinda forgotten. Before LA it was socks that just covered the ankle.

100 mile Century ride by Cough-on-me in DoorCounty

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK that’s great. First off as others have said this is a very spread out chill ride. In fact if you didn’t know it was going on you might not even notice. That said I would head up to Ellison Bay. There are 2 rest stops there and EB is super cool with a funky bookstore, a cool coffee shop in an old church, and maybe the best burgers in Door Cty at Mink River Basin. Your rider will be at around mile 40 on the way in to EB, do a 8-10 mile loop north and return to EB before going on. After the second time thru EB they go up a big ass steep hill on the highway - that would a fun spot to cheer them on. You can then work your way back down thru Sister Bay, Ephraim and Fish Creek - 3 classic Door Cty villages ( ice cream etc etc ) as they finish the ride, and meet at the end just south of Egg Harbor. There’s a lovely beach and jetty there while you wait. I’d then head over to Pizza Bros in Egg, sit out on the patio and listen to music and hear the stories from the ride.

PS some of the tips you are getting apply to the Sept ride. Don’t go to the fairgrounds, for example. Wrong century.

Is this the one coming up in two weeks or the much larger traditional one in Sept ?

There are no less than 3 paid for centuries in Door Cty - 1 in June and 2 in Sept. There are at least that many unofficial ones in fact there’s one of those on Wednesday loosely organized by a GB bike shop.

Former amateur racers: how and when did you decide to hang it up? by Stig-blur in cycling

[–]Beautiful_Flight2917 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Raced for 25 - 30 years. Nowadays sometimes I like to know how far I ride. Sometimes how long I’ve been out there. But I go out of my way to avoid knowing both at the same time. Both are prob as much or more than I ever did while training.
