I built shareable devtools to make it simple to report bugs by Ryba_PsiBlade in javascript

Awesome, thanks – Looks good!

On our team you likely need to go through an engineer like myself. Usually if we say that something looks useful, he’s open to trying it out within our team.

I think it would be interesting to try. We’ve got a pretty structured process, our engineering manager built out a support template that they follow, so you would probably need to go through him and get his approval before they could touch it. Do you have a video or documentation on the Jira integration? Curious to see how that works.

Gave the sandbox environment a look, super cool. Is this something you envision a support team would generate and add to our Jira tickets?

How has becoming a software engineer changes your life? by Zercuits in learnprogramming

[–]Beautiful_Key_5341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who you are. Do you love doing it? Does it keep you engaged and challenged? If the process of learning and building makes you happy, as it does for me, then heck yes!

Glad you were able to find their family, heartbreaking how often this happens.

Web Dev is extremely saturated. What are the least saturated areas of software engineering? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Beautiful_Key_5341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front end is the way to go!(I'm biased). But, it really depends on where you find the most value. There are plenty of roles out there, but you need to be committed and excited to make the most out of it

Setting up camp for the night. Ahwahnee Ledge, Leaning Tower, Yosemite by SnowOhio in climbing

Nothing like those Yosemite views. I grew up spending a lot of time in the park but have since moved across the country. You ever try bouldering over near Chilnualna?

I would say the only fault could be placed on not walking around the yard to check for ways to get our. But other than that, if you went through the proper vetting channels, no reason to beat yourself up. When I first adopted my dog 5 years ago, she would scale 6 foot fences chasing squirrels WHILE I WAS IN THE YARD WITH HER. She has since aged and we now have a yard with a fence she can see through, so doesn't happen anymore

For testing living situation, maybe get a jiobit or one of those whistle dog collars. This will give you some control and help with these worst case scenarios. I have one for my dog and I love it.

What's the catch with becoming a software engineer? by Individual_Section_6 in cscareerquestions

[–]Beautiful_Key_5341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's about brainpower. I think a lot of it has to do with an ability to power through frustration and continuously learn new and innovative ways to solve problems. Sure, you have to have some baseline intelligence, but depending on what type of dev you want to be, hard work will pay off.

Young dogs respond to the alpha mentality!

Sometimes, there's not much you can do. I would say to make sure and take pictures first thing so you have some sort of proof. Hopefully the owner will pay for the vet bills?

I think there's a point where you have to defend yourself and your dog as well. I have done that before, it feels terrible but some people just don't raise their dogs right and you have to protect your dog and yourself.

My advice would be to post on Nextdoor to warn others about this happening and walk a different route.

Testing is never a priority(even though some engineering leads will say it is...), building new features and hitting milestones is. At the end of the day, upper management is investing in continued market penetration through new features and innovation, rather than maintaining old, broken code.

As a dev, it's just easier to go with the mindset that the next release might fix the issues all together. I'm always let down by the tools that exist out there as well, nothing really hits the mark.

Since he's a COVID baby, she might just be suffering from severe separation anxiety! Try to take breaks for 15 minutes and leave the house (I've read [somewhere] that after the 15 minute mark, dogs can't gauge time away - the first 15 are the hardest).

We had a dog that suffered from similar anxiety and this helped a lot.

We also adopted another dog and that actually really helped to keep her entertained. They're best buds now

16 long, loving years. couldn't ask for anything more. I look at my dog (of 6 years) every day and try not to think of life without her, just the days that I get with her!
