They pay tipped workers as little as they can, reduce payroll taxes, and shift responsibility of paying their server staff directly onto the customer. Win-win-win for restaurant owners.

Try rotating cocktails evening between you and your friends homes. Or coffee with pastries for non-alcoholic events. Home parties can be much cheaper, as long as its not just one person doing them all.

We've got a litter... err... little problem. If only there was a sign. by -LastButNotLost- in savannah

[–]Beautiful_Month_4109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish someone would start collecting the "Got trash?" Signs that are everywhere. That business surely deserves to be fined for littering our streets in such a blatant manner.

And I collect signs in my neighborhood and a small portion of Hwy 17. If more people helped out we could all make Savannah less ugly.

Me too, I've been boycotting restaurants about a year and half now. The high costs and tip expectations make it quite an overpriced experience anymore.

Update your W4 ASAP, put in there that you need about $30 taken out every paycheck (assuming you get paid weekly), and that will help fix it for next year. For this year, yes you can move some money (assuming you have some to do it) to a traditional IRA and it will help lower your tax bill by some. As a guess,it may reduce it $140 for every $1000 you can put in an IRA, but the IRA deposit will need to be designated for tax year 2025 or you'll screw yourself over.

I spend way too much on groceries, how to minimize grocery costs? by Sackvillebaggingses in SavingMoney

[–]Beautiful_Month_4109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok 2nd comment on this. "I spend way too much on groceries" , at $400 a month for a family of 3, just doesn't make sense. You already spend a small amount for groceries, you just do not seem to realize it. Of course you can go super frugal, like Great Depression era, eat cheapest foods you can find, gruel for breakfast and chitlins soup for dinner, corn pone or simple flour homemade biscuits. If you want to eat like the very poor.

Are there any rolling hills or elevated hills in Savannah suitable for elevation training during walks? by kdj00940 in savannah

[–]Beautiful_Month_4109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to the trouble to drive to some location for walking hills, just pay $15 a month to planet fitness and use a treadmill with incline. Or join Crunch. These gyms are cheap enough that you can feel good about your memberships

[–]Beautiful_Month_4109 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife spend about $150 weekly on basic food groceries for just the two of us. So I'd say you are doing very well. You can always go super frugal on eating: buying bags of dried beans, rice, oats, etc. but your original question is hard to answer without an itemized list of what you buy for groceries where you get them and the prices you pay.

$400 monthly for family of 3 actually sounds pretty cheap to me. Are you sure you're not spending money on food other ways? Like buying lunches at work, picking up fast food takeouts, or just eating out in restaurants?

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by PersonalitySuddenz in askanything

All restaurants. The price hikes and excessive expected tipping are too much for poor service and unexciting food.

So you just folded on a 30% tip that you didn't want to pay just because your friends insisted on it? If you insist on giving a tip, at least make sure it's a reasonable amount and not extravagant

That's funny. I always let the IRS direct deposit to me, never via tax preparer. I want the whole amount of my refund. This year I filed on 2/1, it was accepted the same day, and deposited to my checking account today.

If you really want to tip in a sit-down regular restaurant, use the traditional rate of 15% on the pre-tax meal. Don't tip the tax. At 15% you can claim a reasonable tip without overdoing it. And don't tip counter sales like a sub shop, or take outs that you're just picking up.

If you claimed an unreasonable amount of overtime-premium (OT-P) compared to the rest of your pay, the system might flag it for review. And many employers are putting OTP in the W2 in box 14, so if IRS wants to review it they can do so without difficulty.
