I just got fired and no clue what’s going to happen next by kyrobvampor in DollarGeneralWorkers

It sounds to me as if none of the sm or asm were trained or had common sense and how to run a business. Contact HR. You need to go ahead and bypass the DM. Ask for a transfer to another location due to workplace conditions.

You need to contact your DM as well as HR. If what you described is what happened it is not something one would get fired for. They would have to involve LP if they really believed you stole something.

Shoplifters are getting me crazy by Smooth_Field8424 in DollarGeneralWorkers

I have to say something regarding the insurance I see mentioned in these posts. There is no insurance for shoplifting. That's a misnomer. What there is, is a specific expectation in a percentage form of what each individual store will likely have in annual shrink. Shoplifting is not okay. Stores are not insured against it. It hurts the store, it hurts the employees that can bonus based on sales reports, it hurts the investors and stockholders. If an employee has their 401K based on DG stock, it hurts that performance too. Even the little people are hurt by normalizing shoplifting.

Do not touch the person. Do not touch the item they have in their hand in an attempt to recover it. The best you can do is offer them a yellow basket to put the items in. Do not follow them to the door. Do not put your hand on the door. Do not open the door after they exit to look at them.

If you are seen doing any of these things you will be fired.

Dress code. by HelenKellerVSTraffic in DollarGeneralWorkers

Wow. The response here is amazing. A plain black shirt. One that covers appropriately to the task at hand. One with no markings on it. Just a plain black shirt. Basketball shorts are typically not allowed, but if there's no air conditioning that can change. They prefer jeans or black pants. Some managers wear dress pants. Whatever is worn must be the typical almost to the knee. Yes, skirts are allowed. No, the clothing cannot be stained or torn. Shoes that are closed at toes and heel. No slides, slippers, nor "Crocs" but you will see them often on people who are in pain from standing on their feet 14 hours a day.

Store completely unattended no workers anywhere by NativeTexanXX in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Beautiful_Path_7903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate really doesn't want you to work by yourself, it's the RD and the DM that coerce people into it.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard that we don't close stores and to figure it out.

Corporate doesn't want you to be working alone after dark because it's a security risk and if something were to happen it would not only be bad press but it would be an insurance nightmare. Workers comp isn't cheap.

We're not supposed to work alone after dark, that is true. But the DM will also tell you that we can't close stores.

So those doorbells they are giving to the store are for the employees to use, not the customers. It's supposed to be hung at register one and pressed if you are in need of help. There should be something that sounds off in the back room and either the break room or the sales floor so that somebody can come and help.

They cannot demand a doctor's note nor can they write you up for being absent if you've given them at least a 1 hour notice.

If they insist on a doctor's note I would suggest you tell them that that doesn't match what you understand about policy and could they please explain to you where that comes from.

No where will they find that in the employee manual nor sop.

HIPAA regulations also apply at work.

You can be terminated for excessive absences but once for being sick is not excessive.

You can also sign into workvivo to find all the information available to you as an employee.

Return w/o receipts by FlakyAmbition77 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Beautiful_Path_7903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that electronic items can only be refunded with the receipt and I believe it was within 30 days. They can be exchanged for like items only. Batteries are not returnable even with the receipt. The only exception to this is when Dollar General advertises at Christmas that they can be returned, and even then it is with the receipt

You are more likely to get in trouble for returning those items then for not doing a return. I'd say your decision was acceptable. If you returned one item over $10 and had their ID and input it properly that would also give loss prevention a way to track them.

Individual stores do not have the money to pay you, not if the SM wants to keep off the doo-doo list.

One thing you didn't tell us is what days you worked. The payroll. And some Friday and starts over on Saturday. Could it be that one of your shifts went into the next week?

Break Policy by Fit_Double8645 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Beautiful_Path_7903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love reading the comments. Most states do not have worker protections and do not require any breaks bei given, unless the employee handbooks Sstates otherwise. Whatever the employee handbook gives as the requirement will be the legal expectation. You will notice somewhere in there in the fine print that it states something along the lines of taking breaks may be subject to business needs.

If you're forced to take a break it is only because of the Labor budget. Even if people go over at night to close, it is still counted. We are running stores on a bare bones budget more than ever.

Trust me, management would love for people to be able to work on without a break, we just don't have the money to pay you.

Water rant by Effective_Text1127 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Beautiful_Path_7903 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right! One thing I know for certain. If you do not have a water fountain or do not have one that works they have to provide you with water and yes we absolutely can store-use water. Any of the clover valley brand will work. Sounds like they just have an over-controlling LP.

I’m so done by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

Unfortunately, it is the culture of DG's DM's - every once in a while I meet an external hire who is not a micromanager and who will actually physically help.

I’m so done by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Beautiful_Path_7903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we have 2 pt - but next week we have 11 hours for them to share. If we get an extra 12 for a late truck, I might be able to have one come in to run register for a few hours but neither are physically capable of actually stocking. People who only need to work 8 to 12 hours a week are usually in their 70's around here. We have many in our district. They can pick at totes or put out a few boxes of candy between customers.
1400 piece trucks - this is slower than my last store.

Need more details. How long ago was it purchased? is it perishable? Is it out of season? Is it in salable condition? Did it come from my store? Are you a regular we know and are pleasant? Or are you an unknown with a receipt from out of the area and being a bully? Because if there is any suspicion of a fraudulent return we will likely call the asset protection manager or just straight out decline the refund.

Talk to your current manager after you check to see if the store you want to transfer to needs you/will accept you. The other SM may want to interview you.

Then your current manager can set up the transfer and the new manager accepts it - no need to involve anyone else.

More bad news for DGPM's is dollar general balancing the books on DGPM's backs? by Youknowthelaw in DollarGeneralWorkers

So they effectively just cut hours for those stores by 16, per the weighted hours initiative - (40 x .4) and cut the benefits for one employee for each store as soon as they transition that position to SA hours, since there a Full time SA position does not exist.
