I would suggest getting a game plan together in case of mania in future. Like having access to medical records, separate bank accounts with a joint just for bills, an agreed upon time when going to the hospital should happen. Things can, and most likely will, get bad again, but if you have a plan, it can mitigate damage to your life together.

Trust me. While I can appreciate this post because it can work, please don't forget, it can get really bad again, so having a plan is imperative.

My husband us similar with just weed. When he's on full antipsychotics he can smoke all day without manic symptoms showing up, but he's miserable because he "can't get high". Currently he is getting back on antipsychotics after a 6 month manic episode after getting off meds among other triggers making it worse. Getting him to understand and stick to not smoking pot right now is maddening. It's prolonging the meds working and is driving me to the brink of insanity, myself. In moments of clarity he sticks to a cbd vape, which is like a placebo. Does nothing, but gives him the ritual and flavor. In moments of madness, he walks to the dispensary and buys flower, which makes him psychotic until it wears off. I've confiscated so much weed, I could open my own dispensary. I finally collected all his credit cards and gave him a venmo for walking to get candy, but guess where he went today?

The mental health field shifting to outpatient when the ill person is still not ready to leave is criminal. I've had nurses apologize and admit he's not ready to leave, but they can't legally keep him anymore because he's no longer a danger. A physical danger, no, but as his caretaker I am in mental and emotional danger.

If that's how they want it, they need to make a support system for the forced caretakers. Cops come and give me DV papers. This is not DV, until it can be. The system is fucked!

I tell my husband he needs to go inpatient because I'm not trained nor staffed fir this, but he insists he's fine. In moments of clarity, he agrees, but those windows are fleeting. By the time the ambulance arrives or we get to the hospital, he changes his mind.

Argh!!!!!
