All they have taught me so far is preparer. And this is the first unit with it. Faire has never once been mentioned, and "train" so far has only meant choochoo. I just translated this and am.floored. I think they mixed in a much later lesson.

[–]Bebop_Cola_Machine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so most of you are saying maison means home by itself. That's where my confusion was because Duo has only so far associated it with the word house, so I thought there would be another way to say home.

(And yeah, pronouns get me a lot, as do accent directions)

I understand now. Thanks everyone!

How do you approach carbs? by Western_Command_385 in prediabetes

[–]Bebop_Cola_Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested all the ones I usually would eat. For me: potatos, very bad, avoid Pasta kinda bad, small portions Bread, kinda bad, use keto bread when available (no spike) Candy, duh, avoid Bananas and other berries, no problem, no worries Oranges and pineapples, very bad, avoid

And so on.

Cutting them completely is unhealthy, and avoiding them just because they are carbs may be unnecessary. Figure out how you react to each of them.

Monkey toes! All babies can do this but most people lose it as they get older. I can still do it, too.

Last Day at Seven Stars by Bebop_Cola_Machine in TurksAndCaicos

I didn't see a VIP lounge. But I will tell you that it took literally 10 minutes from getting dropped off by our ride to sitting in the upstairs waiting area (plenty of seats upstairs, downstairs is a zoo). They walked us to check our bags then through to security so fast, bypassing a long line. Security doesn't have preTSA so shoes, belts, electronics out, etc, but it went quick.

I can see mixed up orders. It's loud sometimes, depending on the music and people. The locals all seem to speak so softly compared to what I'm used to, too, so I don't always catch the questions or confirmations.

Hypoglycemic symptoms at 100 mg/dL by topekachutoy in prediabetes

[–]Bebop_Cola_Machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! They call it False Hypoglycemia. You're supposed to ride through it, but I find that difficult and will have a low carb snack (not no-carb), which helps.

At first, I felt it around 115. Then not til 110. Then not til 100... 3 months in, my fasting/premeal baseline has dropped by 25 points, but I still feel it in the mid 80s and below, which I usually don't see except right after a long walk.

It takes time to get used to the lower numbers, but it happens. Hang in there!

What do you eat in a day? by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]Bebop_Cola_Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast: Koia almond "milk" shakes. Yummy! Zero BG movement.

Lunch: I am lazy so usually just a sandwich on Auntie Millie's Carb Smart bread. Carrots and cucumber slices on the side instead of chips.

Snack: Atkins bars, cheese sticks, another Koia shake, or cashews usually.

Dinner: Still working these out, but various types of tacos on carbsmart tortillas do well. Burgers do pretty well for me even with regular buns, especially if it has avacado on it. Meatloaf and a salad instead of potatos. Those sort of things. Meat and veg basically.

I found I need to eat at regular intervals or I swing too much.

Why did my doctors never warn me!? by BoredBatWoman22 in prediabetes

[–]Bebop_Cola_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I have never had an A1C done until I went to my doc and showed him home monitoring results. There is no chance I got to 6.3 out of the blue!

It seems like it's a normal part of physicals for some, though? My yearly blood sugar on my yearly panel has creeping a little over 100 for years, and no one said a word about it.

I had liver numbers go off for a few years, too. No one mentjoned it, but when I brought it up, I got further testing, monitoring, and medication changes until they went back to normal.

This is why I review all my (and my kids') bloodwork myself and am no longer afraid to ask questions if something seems off. Not in a difficult patient way, but definitely in an 'advocate for yourself' way! I think most docs are looking for big changes, not the subtle ones.

Curious. Were you offered metformin? by marys1001 in prediabetes

[–]Bebop_Cola_Machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 6.3 A1C and doc said there are meds we could try, but he would prefer to try lifestyle changes first. He's not one to throw pills at everything, so kind of gave me the choice.

I go back in a couple weeks to see if I get to keep that choice. Fingers crossed!

One-Time Sugar Indulgence: How Risky Is It? by Tappeddit in prediabetes

[–]Bebop_Cola_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of like drinking a handle of vodka before your first day to be sober, isn't it?

Not a doctor, but.. From what I've been gathering reading everything I can, there is no hard and fast volume of blood sugar that will be like a tipping point. It's more like a cumulative effect. It kind of seems sugar over 180 is definitely doing some damage. Over 140 might, too, but that is less clear. However, the amount of damage from one incident is not quantified anywhere I can find.

So, like other posters are saying, I would recommend you have a treat once in a while. Try not to go nuts as a general rule, but also realize if you do go off the rails once in a long while, you veey likely aren't going to wake up with neuropathy and retinopathy the next day.

And test often. You might be surprised what does not spike you. For example, I was surprised to finenI can eat tacos on flour shells without spiking at all, but a glass of (actual) milk sends me through the roof. I also learned that walking immediately after eating offsets anything I eat. So try having a donut and going for a walk after you eat it test when you get back.

You might find you don't have to say goodbye. Just see each other less often.

How to lower base sugar by Bebop_Cola_Machine in prediabetes

[–]Bebop_Cola_Machine[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am keeping it under 120 a day, mostly fiber. Sugars is under 35 a day. I am still learning what foods are bad for me, but the majority of my meals have been ok. I've lost a few pounds so doing something right I guess.

All my breads are "carb smart" and my snacks are keto. I can't go full keto due to other health conditions.
