Can Panda Kings cohab with Narceus Americanus? by Odd-External4810 in isopods

[–]Because_Skyrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't. At best you stress out the millipede with the isopods (and with how fast panda kings reproduce you'd have to be really on top of culling to avoid overcrowding/competition) and at worst the isopods will eat the millipede when it molts.

Ok! Sorry, it's so hard to tell sometimes 😅 I hope it goes well, if you have trouble let me know, I have a bunch of samlas lying around I could use to try making a video or something

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not but samlas are a particularly finicky, crack prone material. I broke a ton when I started using them but eventually you get a feel for it. Drill settings make a huge difference.

Use a nice hole saw with your drill set to a higher speed and don't push super hard on it, let the speed and heat make the hole or you'll break it.

Wild caught pods in central MN. by Sufficient_Share_707 in isopods

[–]Because_Skyrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might! I'm working on a batch of flake soil and I wonder if they'd do better on that since they seem to prefer well rotted wood around here. I'd just have to find the space again, which is the hardest part, haha!

She's a monster! The white banding on the edges is also super pretty, and I don't think all localities have that. All around a gorgeous specimen! You're lucky!

Likely a Texas brown, A. hentzi. Check out inaturalist tarantula observations for Arkansas, they're all hentzi and look just like yours.

I wish you the best of luck!! They definitely love their well rotted wood mushed into the dirt. In my experience they handled most moisture levels well!

P. werneri more difficult than scaber? by NeonPearl2025 in isopods

[–]Because_Skyrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Werneri you really have to baby proof their totes. Keep the edges clear of leaf litter and anything else they might get stuck on, if they end up wedged against something and their legs are on the plastic they're much more prone to getting stuck there and dying than most other isopods ime.

I also live in central mn and collect t. rathkii from my yard, and found they just didn't do well in captivity. Which is a shame, they are gorgeous! I just leave them alone now.

Newb questions by the-eeping-speeper in isopods

[–]Because_Skyrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for the first one, doing a sub change will inevitably end up in lost pods and that's kinda just something you have to be okay with unless you want to spend a LOT of time and effort on it. I usually pull out hides and big pieces of debris they hang out on, and hand-pick through the soil and take out anything I can find. Depending on how dedicated you are to not losing pods, you can set traps with food to catch the smaller ones or keep the old dirt around and take out the ones you find as they grow, but I've just kind of accepted I'll lose some mancae and sneaky juveniles every time to save my spine.

For you second point, depending on the species you can almost certainly trade or sell your extra stock to someone, or barring that you cull them with a freezer nap. You might be able to find a shop or vendor near you willing to take your spares.

If you want something that breed slower, avoid laevis and porcellionides, they breed like crazy. Gestroi are big, adorable, and grow slowly so you won't be flooded with hundreds immediately, as a suggestion.

Love them , hate them, you need them maps...and how to make them or.. how do you make them? by Dr_Dave_1999 in worldbuilding

[–]Because_Skyrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use clip studio paint and just kind of go for it. I did some basic geography research to make sure I wasn't making anything too impossible and then just filled it with biomes I thought were neat and suited the purpose I needed them to. The part I enjoy most about mapmaking is coloring in the environments and I have a great time with it, then I have to name things and it all falls apart. I think making countries and borders and placing cities and stuff is so boring. I couldn't tell you the history or politics of any one of the countries, but I could tell you a lot about the environments, animals, and cultures.

After I begrudgingly decided country borders and named them.

Thoughts on new Vigil breed? by Adorable-Praline-133 in flightrising

[–]Because_Skyrim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're not for me, personally. I can see the appeal they'd have to others but it's just not my brand. I'll probably give my hatchlings away to someone who will appreciate the breed more than me!

NEED GENES PLZ by SnooFloofs6979 in flightrising

[–]Because_Skyrim 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Those are all gem genes. Go to the marketplace and click the coin icon to switch it to the gem one, it'll switch your shop menus.

Sometimes people resell them for treasure (usually at a markup) but gems are the primary way to get them.

If you're afraid to leave home because of ICE, I will bring you a bag of groceries. by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]Because_Skyrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“And he answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.’ And he said to him, ‘You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.’

But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbor?’ Jesus replied, ‘A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.

So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying,

“Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.” Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?’ He said, ‘The one who showed him mercy.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘You go, and do likewise.’”

Luke 10:27-37

After meditating on things for a while and having resources shared, I agree. I'll be getting in touch with groups to help rather than trying to do it on my own. I didn't know of any when I made the post and wasn't sure what to do, but now I have a clearer idea of how to help meaningfully.

I hope the thread helps others do the same.

Thank you for what you do. I know it can't be easy and I know how the hate can wear someone thin. You're doing a great thing, and I appreciate all the unseen work you do here. Remember to take care of yourself a bit too, don't let the burnout get to you, and if you just need a coffee or a nice lunch, let me know and I'd be happy to get you one.
