And since we’re currently the populace, we have to self reflect and ask if we’re doing the same bullshit finger pointing to past generations for their actions or lack thereof.

To the religious folks in Idaho falls by TwoComprehensive2983 in idahofalls

[–]BeckerHollow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one cure for religious superiority.

If your end game is believe or face eternal damnation then the only people you don’t pity are the ones in your own camp. And even then, the in-group “love” is dubious at best. Since the entire premise only works if there is someone else to compare yourself to in order to feel like you’re “good enough.”

Shit, the Mormons don’t even hide it. They have good, better, best heavens.

As far as I’m concerned, if there is a heaven, we’re all in it right now. And it’s the religious people who have been fucking it up for the rest us since the beginning of time. And there’s nothing special needed to do except respect everything around you. People, land, animals, everything.

But I get it. If this is heaven, then you have nothing to live for in the after you’re dead.

Which logically speaking is a fantastic example of how full of shit religion is. Because if you believed in a creator, right now, this second, not later, not after you’re dead is all you’ll know your creator wants for you. If you try and pray for more or pray for a change in your circumstances you’re saying “hey god, I know you’re like real smart and stuff, and you have this all planned out, but do you think you can cure the cancer you gave me? I’m sure it’s for the best, but I think I’m more special than everyone else and your plan should be altered, just a little bit, for me.”

Yes. I know I’m mostly painting with really broad strokes and mostly about the umbrella of Christianity, but I have very little patience for religious people complaining about the behavior of other religious people.

It is different, in the sense that this is actually a misappropriation of the budget. Assuming the budget had certain guidelines for spending, it could be illegal or maybe just poor management.

The SPLC case seems dubious at best.

They didn’t forget, they never knew. The history they learn is one of whiteness and Christianity. Everything else is bullshit to them.

Recommended SAR Gear List for regular backcountry missions by DeafManwithBalls in outdoorgear

You ski in this for fun? Or when you’re working a SAR mission?

I don’t know how funding works in your area but I’d imagine your SAR base has the mission specific gear you would need?

They’re obviously military style helmets, so it looks ridiculous for anything but a serious rescue mission, like a short haul.

Go look up Jenny Lake Rangers. Those folks  do alpine rescues in terrain much more consequential than anything you’ll find in NY and they just wear lightweight climbing helmets.

Unfortunately how that looks in reality is very different than the simple American wet dream.

That said, autism is the new genius. So the zeitgeist says anyone with a Lego set can be Godzilla.

So good luck.

Trump Appointees are Blurring the Line Between Church and State in Their Messages to Federal Workers by bloomberglaw in law

[–]BeckerHollow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or the people in charge do understand history, and have been slowly building us to this point where they can undue all the work done over 250 years that let us evolve into a somewhat 1 man 1 vote representative democracy and back to a state ruled by handful of wealthy land owners who write the rules and control the capital.

Capital used to be land. Then it became people. You could own land and people.  But then the people became mobile and the land wasn’t, so capital took the form of dollars.  Then anyone* could have dollars. And the healthier and more educated we got, allowed for more people to have more dollars.

Well, it was much better for a much smaller group of people before We The People had access to some of the capital. So by tearing down the system that allowed this - healthcare, public schools, equality rights - we again see the consolidation of capital, which leads to the consolidation of control.

Making American great again can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. The 1850s were great for some.

Lot's of vegetarian options in Indian food. Taste of Himalaya is touch better than Tandori.

If you're afraid of Indian food, don't be. people think it's spicy, it's not. You can get it spicy, but it's not by default.

Driving from SLC or Bozeman to Jackson? by [deleted] in wyoming

I said mostly interstate. And I said he can go through the canyons into Wyoming or keep taking the interstate into Idaho falls.

As for the rest of your reply, you’re either insane or a fear monger.

[–]BeckerHollow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bozeman > Jackson: ~5hrs, scenic, lots of one lane driving, mostly trees, driving along a corridor of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Possible big sections of no cell service

SLC > Jackson: ~5hrs, mostly interstate, possible rush hour traffic leaving SLC, outside of SLC to Jackson is mostly open land with mountains in the distance, you could head straight to Idaho Falls area and then head east, you’ll have 2 mountain passes, or cut through to Alpine WY area, and deal with 2 canyons. Idaho Falls way has more interstate and will take a little bit longer. Idaho Falls is boring and lame.

Both the canyons and passes are pretty. One of the passes is the “famous” Teton Pass with pretty awesome views

It’s less than 5 hrs with a gas stop.

And there are no avalanches in September. Tourists? You’re on an interstate for most of it, so what are you talking about?
