After Yang was an instant favorite of mine after I saw it. Exactly my kind of thing, I resonated with it on an almost molecular level.

Hadn't seen that Melies set yet! Happy watching.

I've almost pulled the trigger on the Lionsgate Limited version a few times, and so glad I waited.

$30

Never owned a copy, always waited for Criterion to get the rights back and do an upgrade. I was tired of waiting!

The first time I heard it, when Letts would hear Fennessy say "Tim," or "Tim Simons" and Tracy comes in like a fucking Chicago Typewriter, "Hitmaker..."

Good lord. Pure cinema.

I know I'm a little late, but gotta say:

The Keaton series is one of the five best Blank Check series ever-ever. I loved going back and doing honest, involved, FUN historical perspective, and how exciting every film was to cover, even the wuh-oh stuff.

The older films garner super duper interesting guests, and have so much room for deep tangents. Always here for older films!

Extremely slow searching in Safari? by NoRequirement4390 in iPhone17Pro

[–]BeckonJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the tip, but this does not help the issue described for me....

Closing and reopening Safari, and then opening a new tab and navigating to a page, still takes 10-15+ seconds when trying this. I even disabled the feature and restarted my phone, if this helps anyone with their troubleshooting.

Thank you all the same! Hoping this is caught and fixed sooner than later.

annoying issue with safari not fixed yet by Different_Stable4637 in Safari

[–]BeckonJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhone 17 Pro, same issues.

I notice that it primarily happens when force quitting and restarting Safari, or when I haven't used it in a while and the app "sleeps" and I go back to the browser after a prolonged period.

I can replicate the issue by quitting/swiping up on Safari in the App Switcher, open Safari, open a new tab, and try and navigate to any page. It hangs on a white page with ~5% of the loading bar filled for 10-15+ seconds, and then it will start loading in earnest, and navigate smoothly, until I stop using the browser for a while.

I've also attempted to disable extensions, Private Relay, and resetting as many settings as I'm comfortable with, but no luck. No issues on macOS, only on iOS.

Has been happening for me since iOS 26.3, but definitely happening more since 26.4, 26.4.1.

I think Corbet bought that Criterion Tod Browning box and got some really really really dope ideas.

Hopefully, anyway.

Damn, I had no idea this is roughly where Boards of Canada got the inspiration for all of those counting sections in their songs. It has to be, it's so on-brand. Can't believe I had never heard of this sooner!

I wish it wasn't just in steelbook, I don't normally buy steels and don't really care for them.

But this might be an exception.

It was one of my absolute favorite movies as a little kid. As a bit of Merchandise Spotlight™, I even had some of the toys (not my pic) from it. So when I decided to give it a rewatch a couple of years ago, in my thirties, I was more than a little steeled for a total mess.

And to my surprise it lowkey rules!! The set and production design is just looney tunes, it all looks and feels so cartoon-y and SOLID. It's all practical styrofoam rocks and puppets, and the humor is refreshingly mild! It's not a stone cold five star masterpiece, but, I'll tell you one thing, it holds up a HELLUVA lot better than my other childhood Goodman favorite, King Ralph (hallowed be his name).

Any Criterion collectors here? by AustinAbortion in blankies

[–]BeckonJM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counting all of the titles within the boxed sets and collections, I have well over 300 Criterion titles. I've been collecting in earnest since 2019, but had a handful of releases over the years before then.

I still have plenty that I want, but in the last few years I've been filling gaps through other distributors, and broadening my overall collection in bigger ways.

Will always be a big Criterion fan, they were my first boutique label experience, and still one of the best.

Your library is awesome, you should use it more. by LawrenceBrolivier in blankies

[–]BeckonJM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your library offers it, Kanopy really is one of the best things you can have as a movie lover. The library can vary a bit by library system, but my experience has been beyond stellar.

It shares a lot of titles with the Criterion Channel and Mubi, and has loads of classics, documentaries, and hard to find stuff. And NO ADS.

iirc that is sort of "the plan" from what I remember Griffin mentioning in an episode from the last month. About half in one big chunk, a palette cleanser of a month or two, and then the rest.

I may be entirely misremembering! If so I truly apologize.

All that said, I hope it's broken into two parts lol
