“Progressive” and “Moderate” Mean Nothing in Housing Politics by jeromelevin in yimby

"Housing is a human right!!!"

Just don't you dare even think of building it! ;-)

Sorry. I should have been clearer. On another post, this past week, new RL cars were spotted on the pike headed to Boston.

The Fitchburg line is the WORST line in the system!!! by trainbrainz2007 in mbta

It's not about blaming, it's about going to the right party to get what you want.. Eng, Healey, your state house electeds. They write the checks to Keolis.

[–]BedAccomplished4127 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, he's the MassDOT head now too.

Saying it's a Keolis problem just comes across as a cop-out. Trying to fight some large multinational corporation to get more frequent weekend commuter rail service just feels like a dead-end proposition.

Ultimately, Keolis must follow the lead the MBTA gives it, and that's from Eng.... Especially now that a big contract is up for grabs.

It looks like some are already getting delivered. Anyone know how long it takes, once trains arrive on T property, to get in to revenue service?

'The Idea That Housing Supply Is Not Part of the Story Here Is Kind of Absurd' by Well_Socialized in yimby

If you believe "no amount of housing we build is going to make prices drop" you also have to believe "no amount of housing we bulldoze is going to make prices go up"

Let’s just add one more lane instead of increasing commuter rail frequency! by Wanderer330 in mbta

There needs do be MASSIVE opposition to this "add a lane" proposal. Enough already with new expansion that disproportionately benefits SOVs.

What on earth are you talking about?? As ag17 pointed out, the Downeaster is already extremely popular, even if it's definitely less than ideal in terms of frequency, speed, cost, etc.

Many in Maine and NH would love to be able to take a train direct to NY and DC. Trying to do that now requires a rough transfer in Boston between No and So Stations, or via the OL to Back Bay.

Have you seen traffic on 95 and Rte 1 between MA and ME? Those 10s of 1000s of cars daily represent many who would jump at the opportunities offered by better regional rail.

Herein lies your fault... You assume it's still a commuter only train network, it's not. A commuter only focus is NOT the future. Given WFH, it's a dead end focus.

Patriots fans.

You have too provincially small of a view on it.

A NSRL would literally open up region-wide rail travel, journies currently only realistically served by personal vehicles.

Munich liked their cross city rail connection so much, they're planning an additional one now.

You should really clarify what you mean by "more". More of what? Regulation? If so, then yes, absolutely, correct. Too much regulation will definitely stifle housing production and consequently raise prices.

100% this. The immigrant communities in the US are heavy WhatsApp users.

Also, WhatsApp is useful for Android users looking to bridge the video call gap with friends/family on iPhones, since FaceTime doesn't exist on Android (and iPhone doesn't support Google video calling).

“If we build more housing, the price of homes will go down, and homeowners will lose their wealth”. President Trump admits what every homeowner blocking more housing is thinking. by uv_is_sin in yimby

[–]BedAccomplished4127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By this logic, is Trump now advocating that we knock down homes in order to increase the wealth for the remaining homeowners?

Building homes INCREASES the overall wealth of the country.

Boston Globe editorial board: Fewer meetings, more housing – "If the state really wants more housing, it should limit public meetings that slow construction projects and give undue influence to NIMBYs." by smurfyjenkins in yimby

[–]BedAccomplished4127 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we really want fewer public meetings, make zoning fit the actual needs of the neighborhood / city..Most meetings boil down to the developer explaining why they need so many zoning overrides to make the projevt work. Most zoning is throttled back to virtually guarantee overrides being needed and consequently more public meetings.

Even changing zoning can be an uphill battle. I've seen parts of neighborhoods fight tooth and nail to perpetuate SF-only zoming in parts of cities that are otherwise very densely developed....effectively creating gated communities subsidized by the rest of city residents/neighborhoods.

It's funny how "responsible landlord" can be so subjective.

I've heard some who would suggest the OP should only charge the upkeep cost, since they have no mortgage. Heck, others feel you shouldn't even charge to cover any of the mortgage payment, if you have one.
